The players listed above were the ones Langley signed and are playing this year.

RE: Langley Recruiting
Things are definitely looking up for the ladies. Kendall Ellig has signed for next year and she's been nominated for the McDonald's HS All-American team. Recently had a 55 point game. Tayler Bennett, a 5-9 guard from San Diego is a 56% three point shooter and has a great all-around game. Our best player this year is a redshirt transfer from Arizona State. When notified of her McDonald's nomination Kendall got a tweet from a 6-2 junior post from Allen who said she's looking forward to playing with her in another year. She's already committed, but I don't remember her name right now. All of these girls mentioned Coach Langley as a big reason for their commitment.

I don't know if we've touched on this in a different thread but the two Pepperdine players that we just signed seem like damn good players. They'll have to sit out a year, but still. One of them averaged 9.3 and 4.3 as a soph, other averaged 18.4 and 7.5 as a freshman. Extremely good blood lines, and the younger one was a top 100 recruit.

The Ogwumike (?? however you spell it) signings are big time. I'm very impressed and next year should be a complete turnaround.

This year wasn't bad considering from where they started. They get one transfer on the court next year but like Rhoades I think Langley's second class will be the real beginning and adding these two really jumpstarts that class.

If I remember correctly the fall signees (2 I believe) were already pretty highly touted compared to our current roster. Might make a small step next year but I think it's reasonable to expect year 3 to be the big jump like we are hoping for on the MBB team.

If they are even 1/10 as good as Chiney and Neka were, they will be outstanding. Wonder why they went to Pepperdine rather than Stanford. In any event, great news.

We have in the past had infinitely long discussions on the value of hiring a relatively young energetic coach. I wonder if someone like Langley had been here six or eight years ago if Neka or Chiney might have come here, rather than to Stanford. They are two of the best of a very good group of players that Stanford has ever had. Think what they could have done here.

Here's a Feb. 12, 2015, ESPN article that gives some insight into the sisters' decisions: http://espn.go.com/womens-college-basket...dine-waves

I think hiring , as you put it, "a relatively young energetic coach ( and likely viewed as an upgrade over the last coach), and improving facilities , coupled w a Rice education, is a particularly attractive package to female athletes. The chances of them moving on to big pro contracts is extremely unlikely, and a great education gives them a good chance for a career w a solid six figure income

Signed 1 more for next year.

Another impressive recruit. I think we are appealing to those players just now coming into their real abilities. As the program improves we should be able to go for players that have an already established national presence. In year 3 I have the feeling we won't even recognize what was Rice WBB for much of its history.

For the first time, I'm thinking it would be fun to go to some of the women's basketball games. Our athletic director has me feeling like the day may soon come when Rice athletics is burning on all cylinders. When has that ever happened?

I anticipate in two years, when the ogwumikes are able to play, we will go to the NCAA playoffs.
