Attendance up at most bowls this year ...
Returning bowls had higher attendance on average this year than last, and attendance was up significantly at NY6 bowls compared to last year, although the addition of some new low-end bowls dragged overall average attendance down a bit. Good news for bowls in the CFP era:

Houston's fans showed up to their bowl game. Memphis down there in second with BYU 3rd.

Guess you missed where about 60,000 people from Iowa went to Pasadena

The Rose Bowl seems almost bulletproof. Seems to draw a huge crowd no matter what.
The bottom 12 bowls in attendance were all G5 vs G5.

Something to note (i.e. the bowl committees and conferences should take note), look at the non CFP Bowls that had big attendance (either by total number or % of capacity):
Texas, Alamo, Citrus, Liberty, Birmingham, Gator, Outback, Las Vegas, Military Cactus, New Mexico...
All of these games had good dates and timeslots for travel and/or were anchored by teams that were anchored by at least one team that was within a 5 hour drive of the location.
The successful games have learned that they need this. Stop sending mediocre teams across the country. Their fanbases won't follow them.
Unfortunately many bowls will NEVER learn. This has been a pet peeve of mine ever since I sat in Tom Starr's office in August 2004 and let him know that the Big 12 would not have a team to fill the Ft Worth Bowl spot vs CUSA that year. I advised that he should sign a backup plan now with the Sun Belt to get access to UNT (who reside just 40 miles north of Ft Worth) for the game. He laughed and said he was certain the Big 12 would fill the spot.
Fast forward to December. I sat home next to the fire watching literally a crowd of 600 watching Cincy vs. Marshall in 23 degree weather in the Ft Worth Bowl. He would luck out the next year with KU-UH but was ousted after a dismal Utah-Tulsa game. The new regime turned it into the Armed Forces Bowl anchoring with the Academies and local teams. Meanwhile, Tom Starr went on to the Heart of Dallas Bowl getting a little success with big luck.
Most of these bowl folks are clueless.

Boise State deserved a better opponent than Northern Illinois. Boise's fans showed up. But, this was the worst attendance for a bowl game for Boise State. This should get people to wake up some more.
They listed the bowl game that UConn went and it as bad attendance as well.
