RE: WKU Game
Can or did Macus Jackson redshirt this year?

The combo of the shortened shot clock and style of defense that Rhoades has the team play makes the game rather frantic and very kinetic, which is great for us spectators. I was glad I finally had a chance to put my season tickets to use.

I noticed a few things that were incredibly satisfying to observe. The first was that, after falling into an early deficit in the second half, Rhoades called a time out, switched to a high pressure defense, and must have tweaked something in our offense, as we immediately closed a wide gap that was starting to form and potentially put the game away. Also, whatever Rhoades has done, he seems to have gotten the guys to buy into the program a lot more than Braun ever could, and you can see that translate into the student section support. As we made the comeback, the players were engaging with them, asking them to make some noise, and the student section happily obliged. It has been a while since one of our basketball teams has done that, and it was good to see. It definitely helps that the team seems to thrilled to interact with students after the games. Braun's teams would go to the student section during the fight song after games, but the level of enthusiasm from the coaches and players is pretty much night and day.

RE: WKU Game
Couple of things from last night. Interesting quote from Marcus Evans. Talking about freshmen stepping up he said since we'll all be together for years to come. Marcus impressed me with his maturity. The conference's leading scorer was scoreless at the half, but he didn't force it trying to get his points. He was still a team player and didn't force it trying to get his points. One nice moment for me was seeing how happy the coaches were after the game. It's been a tough season so far but everybody is still working hard, and it's nice to see some success pay off.

fify. Happy that Evans is playing.

Next year could be incredible with the Lott, Jackson, Evans, Egor, MLE and Cashaw. And the incoming class...

Sad news that they won't make it back. So now our scholarships are slotted 1(drone) 3(bishop, Egor, Marcus), 4 (the freshmen), 5 (signees+Lott). Makes it tough for the 2017 class where we are going for some very highly ranked recruits. I figured with a 4 commit today maybe coach thought Marcus and Lott were going to make it back very soon.

I wonder if maybe the plan for next year is to pick one guy they really want and put all their eggs in that basket. I would guess he has a name and they know what that name is.

I think you take players when you can get them, and I like this class. The class balance issues have a way of working themselves out over time--redshirt here, injury there, guy doesn't pan out. I like the three year nucleus that we are accumulating.

Yeah, I see the concern, but I think it is more likely than not that one of the other 11 players will leave Rice. I mean, turnover is just so rampant in college basketball. I bet 2017 ends up being a 2-man class.
