First rookie in 20 years to go wire-to-wire for his first win. That is so hard to do with the pressure of leading after each round. I noticed his yardage book cover was "Kent State Golf". Cool! Masters here we come!

Great win. It will be good to have someone to root for most weeks. It's been awhile since Curtis played with any regularity.

Hughes had a good chance for birdie but was never on the line.

They interviewed him briefly on his way off the course and he sounded tired. Said it was a long day without his best stuff but he kept fighting.

Big Picture: Even a tie for 2nd is huge for him as it will take him a long way to securing his PGA card. As much of a grind as the PGA tour can be, it will be an excellent start to his PGA career.

That putt was for the win and was awful. Granted, it was getting dark, but it wasn't that hard. Hopefully he can come back in the morning and get that championship!

I'm guessing you don't play a lot of golf for money. 03-wink

Pros will make that length of putt about 30-40% of the time. Less when it's a high pressure putt. He acquitted himself very well today under enormous pressure and made some great rolls from distance that just didn't drop.

Since I got married and have kids, I don't play a lot of golf, period, anymore. The putt never had a chance which is why I said it was awful. Here's hoping he gets it done tomorrow morning! 04-cheers

If you played a lot before you had kids don't go cold turkey. I did for 25 years and when I started back up it was pathetic. At least go to the range once in awhile. It took me three years just to get back to near where I was (minus 40 yards on my drives) and it took playing 3 times a week to do it.

I think that includes this upcoming season. Before the win, he was not fully exempt into any tourney, so 2017-18-19.

Yes, there is an order to who can enter into a tournament. A rookie coming out of the web.com ranks is way down the list, which means he'll get in many tournaments, but not all. As a PGA tour winner, you move way up that list and pretty much can get into any tournament (non-major, non-WGC & non-invitational) that you want.

Majors have their own set of rules ... it'll get Hughes in this year's masters, but not necessarily the others.

WGC also have their own set of rules...Hughes will get in the Bridgestone Tournament.

Invitationals are given a certain amount of latitude that I don't understand completely. I think as a recent tournament winner, he will get into most of those he wants to though.

RE: Kent Golfers in the Pros - 2016
Corey Conners is in the Shell Championship, which will end the Latinoamerica Tour season. He is in sixth place in the order of merit and the Top 5 get web.com cards. Conners will need a good week to jump back into the Top 5. He had a very nice first round today, 2 under and tied for 5th. He'll need to keep that up all weekend.

He will have a second shot at the web.com tour if he fails because he will play the web.com Q School final stage next week. His strong performance in the Latinoamerica Tour has exempted him to the final stage. Ryan Yip is also in the Final Stage.

Conners shot a one under 71 and is tied for 6th. My estimation is that he needs a Top 3 finish to end up in the Top 5 and earn his web.com card (it's a little tough to figure because the field is smaller than normal and I don't know how it affects the percentages that each place pays out).

Conners finished tied for 9th in the Shell Championship and will end the year 6th on the LatinoAmerica Tour (one spot outside of 5th and a web.com card). He did need to finish tied for 3rd to get the card.

Next week, Ryan Yip and Corey Conners will play in the Q School Final Stage, with the Top 50 earning cards.

Q School Time:

* Yip and Conners both shot a 3 under and are tied for 19th place. The field is playing two courses and it looked like both were on the tougher course today based on the scores, so that's a good start to the weekend.

Solid day for Conners (1 under) and he is tied for 13th.

Yip had a rougher day (2 over) and fell back to tied for 55th.

Things are very tight in the middle of the pack, so a good day can jump a golfer 40 spots and a bad day can drop them 40 spots.

Good day: Ryan Yip goes 3 under and moves up to a tie for 20th (Top 45 and ties get web.com cards).

Bad day: Corey Conners goes 4 over and drops to a tie for 50th.

Everyone is still pretty packed together, so a birdie or a bogey on the wrong hole will make a huge difference.

Looks good for the Kent guys.

Yip shot 2 under and will finish close to T-22.

Conners shot 3 under and is T-41st. It'll take something very weird for him not to finish in the Top 45.
