I've noticed on other Threads the People believe that Conference Expansion is not DEAD. That P5s, over the course of time, will continue to accept G5s into their ranks.

Help me understand this...why? What would be the motivation for a P5 to increase its membership now?

Everyone was pointing to the B12 as the obvious choice to make the next move. Does ANYONE very believe the B12 is adding after the latest news?

My feeling is that expansion is dead...what are your thoughts?

That you want CR to be dead, despite history telling you otherwise.

For now alignment is done. It will change when media deals are up. Right now ESPN is going to sit back and plan, they likely want to consolidate further. I also want to point something out to everyone. When you say that we are a tweener league, that we hope to get 4-6M a year for our media deal, you tacitly acknowledge that we are not worth as much as a power 5 team. You want to be a p5 league, then make the goal to be worth the 20-30M a p5 commands. Right now Houston is worth it. I know that for sure. But what about tomorrow? What about 3 years from now? That's what the big 12 thinks about, and their answer to ALL of us was "no, the aac schools aren't worth it" . Can we get to that point? Yes, we can! But it's going to take 10 years of sustained success. 10 years of aac teams winning the access bowl. 10 years of regular wins against the p5. 10 years of bowl success. Oh, and we need 2-3 teams that regularly go deep into the ncaa tournament and 3-4 more that are in the tournament or on the bubble. THAT is what becoming a true power conference requires

Look ... "You have to realistic when it comes to television contracts. All I've said is that we should be more than what Fox is paying a conference that does not play NCAA Div. 1 Football."

What does that mean to me ... "A contract that pays AAC members at a minimum of $7.5M a team." If we have to go to Fox Sports to get it, SO BE IT. I think that we've generated enough BUZZ about the conference to demand better than we're receiving from ESPN currently ... 07-coffee3!

It won't stop the big12 from expanding, but it will stop any expansion of a g5 conference. Thinking we will see a spilt or reorganization of Cusa and Sun Belt. Don't think you would add any schools if 2 left for the big 12.

Thank you...I get carried away. I just felt this had the potential to be a good separate conversation. The other Thread was geared towards would the AAC should do as result of deregulation.

So what do you think? Expansion dead? If not, why?

Post what you want, as long as it's not inflammatory. It's a free country.

David Boren at OSU is clearly not happy. But it's unclear whether he really wants expansion, or is just making an excuse for OU to leave. I suspect the latter applies.

That's my feeling too. And I think the AACs vote is indicative of inside knowledge that the Big 12 is more likely to break up than to expand.
