This. Don't want to across as insensitive and I feel for his family. But at the end of the day, he chose to squander his abilities (among other things).

Agree with fsquid - he made poor choices and ended up killing himself in the Big House. Before the long goodbye, he was a superb football player, NFL player, made money....he ultimately just threw it all away.

I have more sympathy for young men in the ghetto trying to escape a life of poverty and crime. Or handicapped children.

Should autopsy his brain to determine if any football related injury screwed him up. Never know and I am amazed OJs lawyers haven't brought that up

You're right.Kevin Carter was the 1995 1st round pick. Larry was drafted in '96.

Ken Irvin drafted in the 4th round in '95.

Jerome Woods drafted in the 1st round in'96.

I'm with you. I'm getting more thoughtful and forgiving as I age too.

There are no excuses for his violent acts - we can only hope he repented and we can pray for him and those he hurt.

"Walk a mile in his shoes" is correct. Who knows what demons he carried throughout his life or the pain that he endured. I do believe he grew up in state custody and with no family. Again no excuses, but maybe some perspective. Many have come from the same background and been successful, loving, productive individuals. One just never knows about what shapes and influences another person.

I do hope that he and all those he hurt can experience peace for all eternity.
