The gig he's being offered is better, more money(with lower cost of living) and more responsibility.

We're happy seeing him go, you're happy believing you could take a coach from us. If we were happy with Buster and felt he was worth what you guys do, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Congratulations on your new hire.

Pretty easy to believe we "took a coach from you" because it just happened. Now obviously part of that is because MTSU values an DC giving up 26.6 per game nearly 50% more than an OC racking up 34 points per game.

Ego BS aside, you don't see many people switching jobs for less or equal pay, the willingness to pay more than the current employer is how "taking a coach" happens.

You "took" our coach because you put a higher value on him than we did. Let me cut you a $20,000 check for your 2011 Honda Civic and brag about taking your car from you.

Ahh I see. And if we really cared about losing Gus Malzahn to Auburn, we would have made sure he didn't go anywhere.

See, it works both ways.

So you had the $2.3M a year to at least match what Auburn offered?

C'mon, you're much smarter than this.

Yep. I believe that was the reason why he was uhm... cough ... asked to find another job.

So, the original question posed by blueboro was - should we say - rhetorical.

Just dipping a toe in the gutter here...but your rhetorical question is one that can lead to someone re-prioritizing work/life balance and family time for others when they are finally in charge.

You don't ask a OC that had those type of yards in a season to walk away.

Yards are irrelevant.

We were only 35th in scoring. Until the OC produces a top 25 scoring offense against the defenses we face then he's underperforming. Buster's MO is to produce big numbers against bad teams inflating his averages and then not getting it done against better teams. So, whether that's because Stockstill is mico managing the offense or its directly attributable to Buster can't be said for sure.

If you take out the games against Jackson State and Charlotte (sorry 9ers) we only averaged 27 points a games. That is far from inspiring. He rolled up the score on two overmatched defenses.

Is there any doubt in your mind that we let Faulkner walk now? This was always the plan, congrats again on "taking our coach".

Nothing to prove here. You guys could have always fired Faulkner and gotten the same result. Maybe Franklin works out for you guys. I doubt he makes a major difference, but we'll see.

And this is it! I would bet my retirement that Franklin told Stockstill he wanted to come back and Stockstill told Faulkner he was going to be canned so he found another opportunity. I could be wrong but this lateral move by Faulkner with what he had returning to MT didn't make sense no matter what you ASU fans want to think. Faulkner was pushed outta here to make room for Franklin.

This is great news though! I'm very happy with the outcome!

Who cares? It doesn't matter either way. I think this works out for both schools. Buster will be at home against the weak defenses in the Belt. And Brent Stockstill running Franklin's system is the football fan version of a wet dream.

That's a lot of effort for 1 coach who has 5 losing seasons in 9 years as an OC, with one league title to show for it.

We'll see if it works out for you guys.
