I can't even think of anyone in the last decade who would fill the bill. Thames comes to mind since he had the same kind of all-around game. Not even sure Stempin would go in there but he's the most recent I can think of who would be a contender.

He's incredible to watch. Plays so hard and determined. Wish we had a few more years of him.

Conversely, wish we had used him more effectively over the past several years.

If he could only defend and rebound like Dick Miller.

Stempin is about the best I can come up with, too...maaaybe Casey Shaw, but he didn't have near the range Boothe has. Stempin could play inside or outside, and was a pretty good defender, as well.

As much as this team returns next year, I think we will take a step back. Booth is that good, and he makes everyone around him better.

Depends on whether Knapke +Taylor>Boothe. Miller, Swaney, Kozelko all came to mind- if Boothe could rebound and defend like Miller, or if Miller had the offensive game of Boothe, that would have been an awesome player.

Stempin fell in love with the three point line his last couple years and he wasn't very good at it. Under 30%, IIRC. He was much better as a mid-range shooter/slasher. More athletic than Boothe (and just about everyone else in recent memory) but not as strong and certainly not the passer. About a wash in rebounding.

He is the best pure center in all my almost 50 year history of watching Rocket basketball this years Hall of Fame Inductee Jim Brown was the best until him.

BTW I thought Jim Brown was already in the Hall of Fame his induction is Long overdue.

I'd take Shaw over Brown but Jim was a good one. I mentioned Thames, too. Shafir was exciting and entertaining and could explode, but didn't, IMO, have the all-around game of Boothe. And realistically, she was awesome in the women's game but Boothe would eat her alive.

There is no one in the last 20 years that comes close to Boothe I don't think. Thames maybe, but that was 20 years ago. Boothe is better than Shaw I think. Maybe Epperson? ... that would be 30 years. Kozelko was 40 years ago. Wow, time flies.

Steve Mix, love watching him play all 3 varsity years. I think his career ave was at around 21 points a game for a center who was only 6-7.

It was a treat to watch Steve play.

Boothe's strength is the high quality of his overall game. His accuracy and range are amazing. His passing is as good as any player. Solid defense and strong rebounding. His power move to the basket is an area for improvement. Then again, what he is doing now is top shelf.

I recall him just eating 7'er Jim McDaniel from WKU alive. McDaniel was an AA and Mix made him look like a child. Out scored him 25-16, but 9-2 in the first half. WKU was a Top 15 team and undefeated but McDaniel couldn't handle Mix and fouled out midway thru second half. Toledo won handily.

Mix had that mini-sky hook that he was effective with. Ok - maybe not a sky hook, but a hook shot.

Mix makes me think of the rebound shoving match with Olympic Star UD's Spencer Haywood. Haywood took a swing at Lay-up Larry Smith, who
came to give Mix support. Ended with Haywood's ejection.
