ECU QB Transferring to Charlotte
ECU fans, what is your opinion of Cody Keith? I know he was hurt a lot, but did ECU fans think he had good potential without the injuries?

We signed Greg Olsen's brother, who was a top 10 quarterback in HS, so if Keith is solid, we should finally have a legit QB competition for next season. Our QB play was a joke this year. With even mediocre QB play, we probably would have had 4 or 5 wins.

There is a documentary his parents had made where a film crew follows him around high school you can watch. I never did but I bet you'd get a decent idea what you are dealing with and look at his arm.

RE: ECU QB Transferring to Charlotte
It's hard to say because he didn't play a ton for us. When he did we used him on short high percentage passes and he did well with that and then he got hurt. The one thing that kind of bothered me was this season when he quit our team (In my opinion prematurely) that essentially guaranteed the starting spot to Blake Kemp and forced us to move a WR recruit to QB, that's how thin we were at QB. I like a player that isn't afraid of competition and beating a guy out and it was as if he just cashed it in. However I wish him the best at Charlotte and maybe a change of scenery (plus being healthy) will help.

I really was hoping he was going to save our season after KB tore up his knee. Cody has essentially been hurt a lot of the time he was here so it would be tough to judge. He likes to sling it so if it is a pass happy offense I think he could put up some big numbers. Good luck to the kid

Hard to really form an opinion on the kid as he didn't play much, he would have this year if he hadn't left the team before Benkurt was injured.

Never got enough PT to really say...he was the legit backup to our proposed starter before he got hurt himself. Kemp was 3rd string and Summers was 4th/not at all string and both got moved up the food chain due to injuries before the season started.

I think it's safe to say he will be the best QB Charlotte has ever had on the field, by a wide margin.

He's a big guy, too.

I'm not sure that's accurate. He left knowing the QB job was wide open and Benkurt was out for the year and he was supposedly healthy at the time. I doubt he would have left knowing these too guys were the only ones ahead of him if he wasn't beat out. You can blame it on injuries but if he really thought he was better I don't think he would have left. Either way the guy cuts tail and runs every time it doesn't go his way. Like 4 high schools too.

We have Olsen now too, so we'll see.

Yep. Both should be better than what you've had to this point. I'd give the edge to Cody, just from an age/experience deal. Is Olsen eligible to play next year? I think Cody is.

RE: ECU QB Transferring to Charlotte
This is actually pretty cool, IMO. If Cody Keith gets the starting job, I will have a reason to watch some Charlotte football games. I know Pirate Nation is mixed on Cody Keith, but I will say that although he didn't get much in-game action, I don't think any rational ECU fan could say a single bad thing about his character. He throws a pretty ball, and he's got a very strong arm. I think had he been our QB this season, we would have won a couple more games than we did. FWIW.

Well, considering we had 0 quarterbacks last season I'm inclined to agree with you! Not sure if Olsen is eligible to play next season.

Who cares he moved around. I think it is great that it his dream and his parents help him achieve it. Dude did nothing but give it all he had to ECU. I heard he expects to throw it even harder now he had the tommy John surgery. From what I was told he finally left after he made it back from surgery was walking off the practice field and destroyed his ankle. After naming a wr who had been on campus three weeks got the nod over him. Can you really blame him. He put in almost his whole college career at ECU and really has nothing to show but scars on his body. Never got in any trouble here never complained on social media and met with ruff like a man and told him he needed time to heal his body. Good luck bro I will be watching you!

He is. He was a JUCO. Didn't transfer from a D1 school.

I was actually excited to see him play last year. Obviously was ready for Benkert but I thought after he fell off that if maybe Cody could get healthy that he would've been probably a better pocket passer than Benkert. His time here was a list of unfortunate events.

Look, all I'm gonna say is he did put us in an annoying spot. If he were still around, Summers is lined up at wideout most of the year. He made a commitment. That's all I'll say.
