I am interested in who becomes the new chairman but I don't really think it is all that important who becomes the Chair. I actually find the other positions to be more important.

I think they all need to be replaced with people who have no ties to the schools and conferences.

RE: There will be a new Chairman for CFB Playoff Committee next season
The new chair is the AD at Texas Tech: http://www.collegefootballplayoff.com/se...-committee

But that's just the Selection Committee. I imagine the chair is more or less just responsible for the operations of that committee. Like making sure everyone can make it to the meetings, etc.

Like H1 said, the actual decision makers of the CFP are the Management Committee and then at the highest level (the yes/no level) the Board: http://www.collegefootballplayoff.com/governance

what H1 was saying I think is the other positions on the selection committee are what's important. Who replaces Michael Gould, Tom Osborne, and Mike Tranghese- along with Jeff Long who is no longer going to even be on the committee. Do they even replace Pat Haden?

the management committee doesn't select the teams for the playoff. The selection committee does.

OK, fair enough.

It's going to be really interesting to see who replaces Osborne in particular. Do we see spread offenses represented more, or is it going to be more of the old school coaches. Given this opening is Big Ten- think we know the answer to this one. Similarly will be interesting to see who replaces Alvarez next year as well.

I'm assuming you're thinking it will be an "old school" guy. Who are you thinking?

They are going to replace Gould, Haden, Osborne, and Tranghese.

The Pac-12 gets to choose one of its ADs to replace Haden. Most likely an AD with a football background, Bill Moos (Washington State), Ray Anderson (Arizona State), or Rick George (Colorado).

Osborne will likely be replaced with another crusty old "football guy" from a big-name program. There are many of those, I have no idea which ones actually want this job.

Seems likely that Gould and Tranghese will be replaced with "non-P5 guys". Suggestions I've seen: Jeff Bower (former Southern Miss coach), Joe Novak (former NIU coach), Chris Ault (former Nevada coach), Sonny Lubick (former Colorado State coach). Again, no idea if any of them actually want to do this.

Unfortunately too much stress for him I'd think.

Yeah, I could have explain that better. I wasn't fully engaged in that answer I guess.

I'd love an NIU homer on the committee. So I'm pulling for Novak hard. Was an outstanding coach as well

well just saw on ESPN they're saying Lloyd Carr will be named to the committee. Not good for folks hoping spread offenses would get repped any more than they have before.

Have to say I called that one.

Well, all I can say to that is: don't run a gimmick offense. That's not how football should be played.

Looks like Big 10 permanently gets two coaches. Osborne gets replaced by Carr.

Well, a B1G team should always be in a four team playoff.

Well, at least that is ESPN's opinion.
