RE: Final AP Poll: UH #8, Navy #18
Obviously have to commend Houston for their season, but the meat of the story is Navy also a Top 20 team...only losses were to Houston in conference and Notre Dame, who is #11.
American only has 12 teams...putting 2 in the Top 20 is significant.

Here's what I think it would take for Houston to make the playoff:
1. Go Undefeated
2. Oklahoma wins Big 12
3. Louisville wins ACC
4. AAC title game opponent would also have to be undefeated (i.e. USF, who would have win over Florida State) entering game.
If that were to happen, then I can see possibly Houston making the playoff. It would also help if FSU were to win their division AND USF would get a ranking Bump if NIU could win the MAC and we beat them.
That would probably put USF as a top 15 team and would make a win high quality for the coogs.... problem is, I dont see USF as being there yet. Well be better but I dont think were going undefeated. Maybe 10 wins at best. (were just now getting to a point that most of our players are sophomores and juniors)

Congrats to uh and navy on great seasons. Really hoping my guys can break out next year and join you both in this thread next year.
I'll settle for two years though which is probably more likely.

Without question, an undefeated season will put Houston in the top four. This would include wins over number 4 Oklahoma, a ranked Louisville team and a couple of ranked teams in the AAc.
I agree. If Houston beats Oklahoma and Oklahoma wins the rest of its games, its a wrap for an undefeated Houston team to make the playoffs. The media will instantly play up Houston as soon as they upset Oklahoma. The storylines would be huge.

We can agree to disagree.
The media is constantly comparing conferences. Constantly. The conference looks better when any, and hopefully lots, of it's members have success.
Some usual posters tried to say this same nonsense after UCF won, but it's obvious that win was HUGE for the fledgling AAC. Sorry but schools are in conferences so it matters, we're not all independent. TV deals are negotiated with CONFERENCES.
Root for all AAC schools in OOC/Bowl games for a reason...
I totally agree, and the first conference to understand this was the SEC, hence they're in the place they are. A team like Florida, gets the respect it does just cause it's in the SEC, cause let's be honest, they're not worthy of the top ten ranking they had for a while.

Moreso if you think that if Temple had won their bowl, they'd also be in at least the top 25.
