except nobody really watches cbssn and a lot of us can't get it on cable or internet unless we purchase an expensive package from the local cable monopoly

Really? My immediate family members live in Toledo, Cincinnati, Akron, & Pittsburgh, and every single one of us was able to watch the Rockets on CBSSN last friday as well as tonight, through a variety of different sources.

Yeah, it's pretty accessible.

I think the attendance number for the game is accurate. Though the tickets were $5 instead of the usual $10 and they had a deal with a hotdog and beverage (including beer) for $5 which I'm sure brought a bunch of people.

Everybody runs promotions. The point is Maddoggie's fear that TV would ruin the attendance did not play out. As I recall he said there was. Big promotion planned for Saturday had the game been played then. So NIU gets: great attendance, TV money AND TV exposure. Does not sound like ruination to me.

RE: MAC Leadership Ruining the Conference
I like the ESPN contract. When I attended OU in early 90's I could barely get the radio broadcast. Now because of technology I can hear every game no matter where I am and more often than not I can actually watch the game. Right now I'm watching EMU-Ball State through my Roku on the big screen. At 2:00 I'm going to watch the Ohio women and then at 4:30 the Ohio men.

As for the late Friday game vs Kent State I'm actually looking forward to a fun atmosphere. My brother and his family are going up early for dinner and then we are going to take in the game.

Before we get upset about some time changes for TV I think we need to remember the old days when there was virtually no TV.

Back in the day NIU's Cheick Evans was gettiing max capacity attendance 6,000...Once Kenny Battle transfered to U of Illiinois the program began going down a slippery slope with the final plunge during the Ricardo Patton regime...
After so many years of bad basketball, not just losing basketball but BAD basketball, attendance went down down down
Attendance can be tied to winning...the more wins the higher the attendance..
Mark Montgomery is a good coach that was given a bucket of s**t...
To be able to upgrade the talent as he has this year was an amazing accomplishment...
Continued success will revive student interest and increase attendance
Opening night of the Convo was a game with DePaul attended by 9,000...Have not had a visiting team of that caliber since (local Chicago team with a good basketball tradition)

I was at the game (2nd of the year and first time ever going to more than 1bb game a year) at least 1/3rd of the season ticket seats were empty. Fans were still showing up just before half time because of the early start. I have no doubt that we would have had 4k for that game if it were played the next day with our Spring Homecoming promotion.

That being said I think playing that game on "National TV" (CBSSN) with 3200 was better for the program than playing only on ESPN3.com in front of 4k.

I disagree. I have buckeye cable... The monopoly here in Northwest Ohio. And i couldnt watch the game. My father who has ATTUverse had to text me updates. Also; 4k means 800 more tickets sold. Larger 50-50, and larger concessions. Take the home crowd over whatever is on TV 100% of the time in MAC basketball.

Although at NIU a larger crowd just means a larger number of people that did not make it alive and survive the wait in the single concession line, whether it be from needing to use the bathroom standing that long, dehydration, or natural causes.

I have Suckeye Cable as well, and I was able to watch. It's not really a premium package that's needed, just the step above the very basic cable package.

Are you unfamiliar with the definition of monopoly, unfamiliar with geography or just unfamiliar with other cable options available in NW Ohio? I have TW- could get Buckeye but don't. I live in NW Ohio.

Yep. For me, it's either Suckeye Cable, or satellite. And I don't want satellite.

I live in a large apt complex that is not allowed to have anything but Buckeye Cable... Thats a monopoly in my area. They charge the most for the least. We have basic cable (70 channels) with one box, and have a router with pretty fast internet... $145.00 a month... I am a college kid.

A monopoly in your area is very different than saying Buckeye is "the monopoly here in Northwest Ohio."
