Nice letter received by Marshall Athletics
Got a case of the Monday blues? Well, this should help. We received this email from Paul Cumbie, who served as one of our hosts at the St. Petersburg Bowl, and he authorized us to share it with you. The letter:
I wanted to share something that I trust you will pass on to Deandre and the rest of the staff. Each year I try to give some tickets to those less fortunate who could not afford to go to our game if they had to purchase tickets. This year I gave 2 tickets to a young man for him and his 9 year old son. The son’s mother is not around as she is lost in the drug world. The son is a huge Marshall fan! I would like to say thank you to Deandre Reaves for his actions on game day. After Deandre had received the MVP, he went to the sideline to wave to the fans. The young boy was at the rail and he asked Deandre to sign his ball cap. Not only did Deandre sign his cap, he took his gloves off, signed them, then gave them to the young boy. He then took the ball cap and had other Marshall players sign it for the young boy. I am telling you that little boy has not come down off of the cloud. His father says he sleeps with the gloves and wears the ball cap everywhere. Deandre is an MVP in more than just football. He brought joy to a young lad who has had a difficult life. I want to personally thank him for his unselfish act, and let him know when he becomes the superstar I know he will be, to never forget he can be a positive example to many young people in life. Please pass on my deepest gratitude to Deandre, and also to Coach Holliday, his staff and the Athletic Department for teaching these young men not only football but how to be humble. I can say with all honesty, Marshall has the most well-behaved and most well-mannered young men I have hosted.
Sincerely and God Bless, Paul W. Cumbie

Man, I wish we had that guy a few more years. I get the feeling he hasn't come close to his ceiling as a player or as a human being, yet. He is one of my favorites of all time to play at Marshall.
