At the 8-minute time out in the 4th, Rice leads 47-44, after trailing by 9 earlier. Let's see if we can hold the lead.

The crowd sounds pretty loud. Hawkins just hit a shot to put Rice up 60-56 with 30 seconds left.

Coogin' it pretty bad. We miss two free throws, they hit a 3, we only make 1 of 2 free throws, we foul (!?) them and they make them both for a tie - going to overtime.

Wow, I don't recall that happening ever for the women. I don't think you can belittle their effort at all, especially Hawkins who unfortunately has fouled out with 27 points. They're playing an improved UNT team that has already beaten Oklahoma and SMU. The women are playing hard under the new coach and she's figuring out a better rotation. They have to get Rainey on track, but at least the women have some upperclass players (Hawkins, maybe Goodwine and Rainey) who can lead; unlike the men, which are pretty much relying on all first-year players outside of Guercy.

Rice is only 25 of 40 shooting free throws, ergo the need for 3 overtimes. We're at the line again, up by 3. Goodwine hits 1 of 2, and I think we are going to eliminate the need for four overtimes, as there's only 7 seconds left and we're at the line again.

Yea Owls - winning beats losing. Final 100-97.

Very nice win and effort. That might be the highest scoring (combined) game in Rice women's history.

This is surely correct.

According to the latest WBB Fact Book I found online (2012-13), in the four games in which Rice scored its highest point totals, our opponents scored less that than needed to add up to 197:

Nov 14, 1997 (vs Texas Southern): 115-35 (150)
Dec. 9, 1994 (vs Prairie View): 114-34 (148)
Dec. 28, 1996 (vs Texas Southern): 108-42 (150)
Jan 6, 1994 (vs Prairie View): 102-43 (145)

Rice's most points scored in a loss came on Jan. 2, 2007 (vs. Houston/OT): 86-91 (177).

Here are the scores for the five games in which our opponents scored the most:

Feb. 15, 1984 (vs. Texas): 50-113 (163)
Nov. 18, 2005 (vs. Mississippi): 63-110 (173)
Jan 14, 1984 (vs. Texas): 54-110 (164)
Feb 22, 1992 (vs Texas Tech): 66-105 (171)
Jan 6, 1983 (vs. Texas A&M): 81-105 (186)

This last game appears to have the previously high combined score.
