RE: Marshall the best team in C-USA?
I figure we are already competitive. Don't know how we will do vs top teams esp on the road though. At the Cam we will be hard to beat.

Marshall plays basketball, I thought they were a football member only.
Seriously though, the season is long and let Marshall bask in their home wins before they have to play on the road.....

And other than facetious threads like this one we are all cautiously optimistic about maybe having found a diamond in the rough this year. We seriously were hoping to win 10 games, five from CUSA this year. Nothing wrong with being surprised after setting so low a threshold. They are really fun to watch move the ball around. So, exciting basketball with some exciting results equals excited fans. That's all.

Nothing wrong with that - we are better so far than I thought too after losing so much from last year

That fact that this thread exists speaks volumes for Dan. A week ago a bunch of idiots wanted him fired already

We are playing well but the big boys await - MT, UAB and Tech. If we shoot well and play decent D we can compete but if we are off our game, we still struggle badly. We are an extremely young team.
Hopefully we can continue to improve and give the top teams in the league a battle.
We are actually better than I thought we would be.

I don't know what the standings will look like at the end of the season, but Marshall has to be one of the most fun teams to watch in the conference. Our first 6 trips down the court this evening, we shot 3's. Made half of them. It almost looks like street ball, but that's the plan, organized chaos.
Losing Kelly after this year could tank the whole thing. It's gonna take some very good recruiting to maintain at least one inside presence with rebounding. I think Dan could do it, but I don't want to read that we picked up 3-4 6'4" guards out of WV again for a few years.
Losing Kelly will hurt at seasons end but we'll keep truck'n on. I think our backcourt of Elmore/Browning and Burks could be the best in CUSA for the next 2-3 years. Who would have thought that considering all three were born and raised in West Virginia?

That's what scares me the most. I keep seeing these comments about wanting more WV players.
Don't get me wrong I love my adopted home state and if MU or ANY school can get talent from WV then great for those kids and their families, but talent is a numbers game. More population more talent. WV lacks in both. Great players will always come from WV but in tiny quantities and as you said I don't want to hear about it for awhile because the more players that fill the roster the less likely they will all pan out.
I would love to see kids from St. Joseph Huntington prep go play for Marshall. Everybody else in the country goes after them and Marshall doesn't even bother. The public schools have had some good players the Herd (or WVU) couldn't get either. There's some talent around here.
I doubt any coach we've had "hasn't bothered." I'm sure they put feelers out and don't extend an offer if their isn't any interest. It's one thing to see what's shakin'. Quite another to publicly lose an offer to everyone you extended to right in your backyard. I mean these are world class kids from all over the region and farther. Be nice to get one on an up year to break the ice. With a successful season for just one of them we could probably build a tradition of taking a few each year.

and those 4 are about the only experienced players on the roster.. Everyone else who sees the floor is a sophomore or freshman.. So while our starting 5 may not be real young.. the team as a whole is pretty young

UAB has no players averaging over 28.8 mpg. Of those:
Sr-28.8
So-26.6
Jr-24.1
So-22.8
So-22.8
Jr-21.0
Jr-17.6
Jr-15.7
So-12.4
Jr-9.8
Fr-6.6
I'll take our experienced youth.
