Tom Bradley. UCLA DC. Aproaching the end of his career but has a great coaching history and pedigree.

$510K per this site.

Give him a national recruiting budget so he can bring in smart kids from all over to play.
If you poll our baseball players, betcha if they were truthful, would say Graham's ability to get guys into the pros is a reason they came.

Wow he didn't exactly invest his A&M money wisely if he is back to coaching HS. I know Fred after he left Duke (or Duke left him) retired for a while but then his old HS got him to coach for several years but his pay at Duke didn't come close to Sherman's,

He retired to Massachusetts and is coaching at a small high school on Cape Cod. Truly a retirement gig... If he was coaching 6A Texas HS, I could see your point, but this is MA high school football where the stress/time commitment is very low.

I am sort of in the camp of Owl69.... in wanting an up and comer. While Bradley isn't a HC retread I worry that at the end of his career does he have the fire to take the Rice challenge. The one way I could see this working is if his assistant hires were significant enough that his successor (that you could identify) would come from that. His DC background does play into Owl69's Defense first mantra (which I also agree with).

If Major didn't have the baggage from his UT sexcapade I think he would be the perfect fit. We would have to throw some good money at him but his forced sabbatical put a crimp in his timeline to becoming a HC (also Mack's lack of success in the final years). Perhaps he would see this as a way to jumpstart his HC ambitions. Of course it could be argued that he could wait for Mensa to move on and then grab the UH job but if he thinks he can make a splash as HC at Rice his road to a P5 HC might be quicker through us. Whether or not those that have reservations about him because of his "troubles" can be overcome remains a question mark (especially if some of these folks reside on the BOT). Major certainly has an understanding about the issues at Rice. Perhaps with JK in charge and with Leebron's backing he might think the situation has improved enough from what he saw the first time around.

Thanks...that sounds exactly like Fred's situation.

Agree on favoring the innovative and energetic up and comer, with a shorter leash than Bailiff had.

As to Major and his issues with coeds, the Rice atmosphere and the UT atmosphere seem different enough that he'd probably have less distractions to worry about here than even at UH, making it the better place for him to continue his rehabilitation, no?

Rehabilitation? What? He messed up, he isn't some sex offender that needs to stay away from any and all temptations.

He has a great gig at UH, he isn't leaving it for a mid level CUSA job that is gonna be close to a rebuild due to zero recruiting class this year. He has tons of offensive talent coming back and 4 4star WR/RB transfers to go with a Sr QB. Then Kyle Allen the next year.

His next gig will be a big time P5 OC or UH head coach.

He isn't going to risk his career by dropping down to Rice at this point.

Agree with everything here. As to his episode at UT... I think that it can safely be put behind him. I would imagine that it isn't the first or last time a 20-something member of a coaching staff got involved with an undergrad. Not condoning it but it doesn't make him a "character issue guy" because of it.

Gee I'm glad you came back to this board. Can always count on your "keen insights on Rice".

I was just trying to be delicate with the subject. I don't have much problem with his background, personally.
