Mostly I come down on, guys who want to be head coaches will take the jump, but let's look at this crop of G5 hires.
BG: Texas Tech Associate Head Coach/RBs (not a coordinator, but had additional responsibilities/pay)
ECU: Duke OC
Ga Southern: Colorado State DC
Hawaii: Nevada OC
North Texas: UNC OC
Toledo: Internal promotion
Tulane: Ga Southern HC
UCF: Oregon OC
ULM: McNeese St (FCS) HC
Ball St: NFL position coach
Texas St: James Madison (FCS) HC
In general, this looks about like how you'd expect G5 hires to go. Some power conference coordinators, a couple FCS head coaches, Tulane poached from another G5. Hawaii and Ga Southern hired G5 coordinators which is interesting, but not totally weird it turns out.
Here's what 2010 looked like:
Akron: ND position coach
Buffalo: Cincinnati OC
CMU: Michigan St position coach
La Tech: Arizona OC
ULM: UNLV OC
SJSU: Duke DC
UNLV: FCS HC
WKU: Stanford position coach
Not sure I see the beginnings of a trend at this point but it is something to watch.
