Wasn't Ward a disaster at UT?
During Ward's 3 season run at UT, the Defense made major improvements in rushing defense, creating turnovers, tackles for loss, and defensive sacks.
The defense stunk when he was here. Not saying it was all his fault. Lost points with me when he was living in BG while he was coaching at Toledo. With the problems at Illinois, I'm surprised these guys are employable.
Defensive Personel recruited during Ward's time at UT included:
Jayrone Elliot, Treyvon Hester, Orion Jones, Allan Covington, Jaylen Coleman, Chris Dukes, Cheatham Norrils, Trent Voss, Johnion Sylvestre,
Keenan Gibbs, Phil Lewis, Ross Madison, Chris Collins, Elijah Jones, Juwan Hayes, Taikwon Paige.
Sure, that's nice and all, but he lived in BG.

Good thing he's just the LB's coach and not the DC.

Between that and Illinois, he definitely should be on double secret probation or something.

Yep, and his defense gave up 63 points in back to back weeks at home against NIU & WMU

And couldn't convince his head coach to call a time out....

Like I said before........good thing he's not the D-Coordinator. Some people are better off staying as position coaches then being coordinators, just like some are better off being coordinators than head coaches.......see Tom Amstutz.
There have been several young guys or guys with little to no DI experience added to this staff. Candle brings in a guy to coach linebackers that is a little older and has a ton of DI experience, including at the Big Ten level, and people on here still complain.
For what it's worth, 2016 LB commit Ron George is really excited to be playing for Mike Ward.

Yeah, I think our D was a disaster when Ward got here. It's taken a long time to bring it around. I think Ward will be helpful.

Brian Wright's Resume
Seems like a good hire. Could potentially be our next HC.

RE: Zach Harig: Jason Candle continues to make staff hires
the hiring of wright will mean a very interesting qb competition over the spring and fall camps. the assumption was ely would get the extra year and if not woodside would take over. with a new veteran qb coach who also co-coordinates the offense there will clearly be a fight between 3 good prospects and fairly proven veteran backup. with hunt swanson and even more backs plus 4 returning oline starters and jones and thompson, roberts, etc...any of them could probably do the job.
