SMU Conference tourney
Is SMU allowed to play in conference tournament? If not do they play into the seeding of the tournament?

No they aren't playing in the AAC tourney so they don't factor into the seeding..

But the people who get the pleasure of playing them twice get screwed though.

I watched most of last night's game and the one thing that struck me - damn, Nick Moore is still on the team! I swear it feels like he has been there for 5-6 years.

It wasn't all that long ago when we had numerous "experts" on here saying that SMU was a bad addition to the AAC because they would drag basketball down. Most ANY university located in a major metropolitan area is capable of having a good basketball program if they are willing to commit to it.

it happens to several teams.
One time Memphis was on probation after Dana Kirk..and beat Louisville in the Metro Tourney..and kept everyone in the Metro out of the NCAA tournament that year.

RE: SMU Conference tourney
The only reason Memphis was allowed to play in the 1987 postseason was because three of the Metro's seven members (Tulane dropped basketball for a couple of seasons during this time) were also on probation. I suppose they didn't have the foresight to award the Metro's automatic berth to the highest-finishing team not on probation (Louisville) like we've seen recently in the SWAC with its APR problems, but it's amusing enough.

1988 was just as bad with South Carolina and Virginia Tech on probation.

Hey, when we were willing, we did.
