Interesting choice. Good to finally get on the SEC-late-season train. Perfect year for it (when we'll have five OOC games, because we'll be @Hawaii [ETA: WIOwl beat me to this]).
Our OOC looks pretty good for the next four years. It'll be interesting to see what we do with the fourth OOC slot in 2017.

“We have heard from our fans a desire to see us play more traditional opponents out of conference,” said Joe Karlgaard, Rice Director of Athletics. “LSU certainly fits that description and when offered an opportunity to rekindle the series, I was excited to be able to make it happen.”

Very interesting. I like this.
Truthfully, I hate Tiger Stadium. Probably the WORST venue for a visiting team in college football. But I think scheduling our old rival is a good thing.
Hopefully, a nice paycheck for us.

LSU will pay out a total of about $3 million for those three games. The Tigers are paying Southeastern $500,000. The Lions have an athletic budget of about $2.7 million this year. Rice will get $1.3 million, and LSU will pay Louisiana Tech $1.15 million, assistant athletic director Verge Ausberry said.

Sounds like solid negotiating! Good deal, that should pay for our trip to Hawaii and the extra home game will just be bonus to spend on something else.
Great job to JK!!! Glad he didn't give up on this, because the things that have been said by him, as well as posted by many here, I didn't think it would be possible for a long time if ever.
Just saw this, and haven;t read what the actual deal is, but whatever the numbers are, it is so worth it just to get Rice and LSU's names associated in football once again! I am so impressed with this and happy for Rice fans and players. Kudos, kudos, kudos!
Now, can we get UGA or Ga Tech (or even GA State and/or Kennesaw State Owls) on the schedule in the future? (or even Ol' Miss?) I want to wait for Alabama until we have at least a shot at playing competitively with them in a game. Don't want to tarnish that undefeated record against the Tide, which is a great storyline for the day it finally happens (hope I'm still alive to see it when it does!)

I drove past Tiger Stadium this November on my way back to Houston & the Rice Homecoming after visiting former co-workers in the Baton Rouge area ... and it is now HUGE ... and looks -- from the outside, at least -- much different and more clean and corporate from the relatively intimate, steaming pit where I and fellow Rice Band members (pre-MOB) were greeted with intense "Tiger Bait! Tiger Bait! ..." chants and extended "Geaaauuuuux Tiiii-gerrrrrs" cheers from the 60-some thousand LSU fans. (Seeing the Golden Girls up close made up for it.)
I'll have to find a way to make it in 2018 ... and, hopefully, a Rice home game during the prior or subsequent weekend.
