We should all be rejoicing and happy. I predict we will all wind up being much happier.

What has he done to justify an HC position? Best thing he has done is trade off his father's name.

LOL what a dick.

I haven't read thru the rest of this thread yet, so I apologize if this has already been asked,... but I think the important question is...how many of your bigger commits will he attempt to take with him to Texas State? When Georgia Southern's coach left to Tulane, he offered a ton of our recruits. Two have already flipped...

Sure we can. We can do worse too. I was just saying that he can get out of a position coach if he wanted to pursue our job.

He can try all he wants. My guess is any that flip and follow him will regret it within 2 years.

Just look at how often he changes jobs, like every two years. Anyone here that is in charge of hiring employees knows that that is a giant red flag because the best predictor of future behavior is actual past behavior. Combine that with how he has apparently only been renting a house in Harrisonburg and it seems pretty obvious that he only ever consider this a one to two year stop over on the way to a head coaching job at p5 school as part of a five year plan.

Don't see many if any following to North Texas but we may lose some to other schools. Hopefully we act quickly and keep best players. The timing is not great.

Not concerned at all. Texas is a long way from the east coast and our recruits are FCS level talent anyways. I am more concerned with other FCS schools flipping our recruits while we search for a new coach.

Losing guys to Texas State? Not many. Losing guys to other schools? Depends on who the new guy is I bet. A lot of the offensive guys could stay if we employ a similar scheme to now

This. I know that is the nature of the business but he was just in the living rooms of these 17 and 18 years old kids promising their parents that he would take care of them for next 4 to 5 years. That is pretty low.

This is what cracks me up. He obviously knew this was a strong possibility. How about just tweet nothing? These kids have to be thrown for a loop.

Wonder who will be managing the team over the next 3/4 weeks? Sounds like all the assistants are gone as well, so maybe Borne will be working the phones reassuring recruits.

I would be happy with Mickey coming back! Withers is the second worst game manager I have seen in college football. His 34 defense was an embarrassment and the special teams were really not special. Only Mike London is a worse in game manager in my opinion.

This conversation is hysterical. It's like watching someone try to justify why they got dumped to make themselves feel better. Sh*t on Texas State all you want, but they were viewed as a better option than JMU. We seem to forget that part. Everyone from Wither to Mickey are excited about their new FBS jobs. And here we are with thumb firmly planted in a**.

There is nothing to get worked up about as this is just part of the business of college football. Even if we were FBS we would run the same risk of losing a successful coach who has ambitions to coach at a higher level so he can make more money.

Couldn't have said it better than myself.

Facilities, fan base, program prestige, budget, school = JMU

FBS = Texas State

Withers took a promotion going to Texas State. Try arguing that Sun belt programs and other bottom feeding G5 programs are not an upgrade from our current status.

If this isn't a wake up call to our administration nothing will be...

I disagree. If you asked me if I wanted him back I would have said yes but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. My disappointment is I was hoping we could turn things around on defense with some of the new incoming staff members. No idea what happens now. My other fear is I'm not sure Jeff Bourne has any idea either.

That being said, as someone else said, if this was going to be an annual charade, who really cares. The guy won 0 playoff games. That's a fact. It's not exactly like we lost Vince Lombardi here. And we WILL be an FBS team, he just didn't feel like waiting. Thing is, Texas State is just another stepping stone too.

Exactly. At this point, nothing will wake this admin up.
