I talk to a security guard at Phillips Arena while I was in Atlanta, and he said Paul Millsap was up early one morning shooting after a playoff loss. Nobody in the arena except Paul and the security guard. Dedication is what it takes, talent will only get someone so far

Good game to La Tech. The kids could've folded up after the ODU runs but they didn't and made a run to get back in it. Love games that have ebb and flow of runs. Good game for the conference to have on TV to show the brand, just glad my heart was able to take it.

Regarding our mini home streak, all of us here would love to think that it might extend all the way into next season. But somehow I think that UAB and Empty Sue will put it to a serious test in just a week's time.

So, ODU - a team that can't beat anyone away from home during the non-conference schedules beats the best team in the conference in its first game on the road within league play? Awesome.

This is a perfect reason why this conference sucks right now. Something ironic that it's ODU contributing to this. We keep having teams that suck during the non-conf schedule suddenly start playing better when they get to conference play ruining it for everyone. Awesome.

The Monarch home stand over the next two weeks also includes the Hilltoppers and the Herd. I never feel safe when the Toppers are in town, and in case you have missed it, Marshall is fast shaping up as a real threat in conference play. If ODU can get through UAB and MTSU, and then somehow manage to extend the home court winning streak through those next two games, they will have accomplished quite a feat.

We aren't going to put anyone over 6'8" on the floor anytime soon. The tallest guy in our next recruiting class is 6'8".

Expect the same results. Both teams will get taken to the wood shed by a tall physical team. But that has been Tech's MO for the last few years and when we shoot bad as we did last night, we lose.

Give credit for ODU for having a good game plan; making McCree turn the ball over, and stacking the lane to prevent driving.

Stretching the defense out and trying to play tight perimeter defense, is when Hamilton and McCree take over. ODU did the opposite and dare us to make open outside shots. That's how you beat Tech, real simple and I'm sure the other CUSA coaches know that too

From fundamental stand point it wasn't a pretty game, ugly basketball. I was impressed with ODU defensive plan and the execution of it. Of course Freeman is a good player and hit some tough well guarded shots but Tech had to hit open shots and when shots aren't falling Tech loses. This team tries to impose their athleticism on other teams and this is not the NBA. Even though Tech might be more physically talented and quicker don't expect a win against a team that plays well executed defense especially when Tech shoots poorly.

JJ calls that "building wall" and that's our strength really. Because we are generally not a pretty offensive unit. Those 15 footers were falling great for a couple guys so that was our saving grace. We still had 10-16 points on the floor with missed layups and dunks. If those ever start falling games would look a lot less painful. If those 12-15 foot pullups don't fall we're pretty much a lost cause offensively.

Hamilton and Freeman were named to Lute Olsen award watch list.
