Things sure have changed since ECU's last season in C-USA.

24-10, NCAA tourney round of 32
I would also this year.
I don't think that any of us are willing to settle for that long-term, right?
I do think if you can consistently make the NCAAs, you'll eventually get "that team" and make a run (2 or 3 NCAA wins)...I can be patient.
I can't accept not making the NCAAs back-to-back seasons when you have a McDonalds All-American (Shaq Goodwin), had a 5-star in Austin Nichols, added a 5-star in Dedric Lawson...his team has the talent...he has a big time program...he has the $$$ backing him...everything is there for him to win big...but he can't even get us to the NCAAs anymore...THAT worries me greatly.
I sincerely believe that Pastner's best years are behind him. He really capitalized on the Memphis brand (which was still red hot) to land guys like Will Barton, Joe Jackson and Shaq Goodwin. He combined that wealth of talent with an abysmal Conference USA to dominate the league and post gaudy numbers.
His BEST, most talented and experienced team lost 10 games in AAC's first season, lost the first game of the league tournament and got absolutely embarassed in the NCAA tournament second round.
This season, we start two McDonald's All-Americans, a top SEC performer at PG, a slew of top 100 guys and probably won't be dancing again in March.
I semi-understand why we've kept this pirate ship afloat up to this point, but financially, even the large buyout is starting to look like a bargain.

Beyond that, let the chips fall. It's not a talent issue. It's not a brand issue. We're going through a maturation.
Let the season play out.
Beyond that, I'm cheering for SMU to keep making a statement this season. That's a great team.
Why is the guy at USF getting a pass? I checked out Sagarin's ratings this week and Tulane was about 204, ECU about 170, UCF about 175....
USF was like 266. Far and away the worst program in the American. Doesn't appear to me that the guy is making any progress...at least the other 3 guys are around 200 or higher. Jones and Lebo have at least proven they can win games.
I never really understood why Tulane hired Conroy...he was a mediocre Southern Conf coach at The Citadel, IMO.

I agree. Fire Antigua too.
I didn't list him due to their patience with Taggert. I'm not sure they see things as clearly as we do. His program this season has played below their competition... even low level teams.

Seriously. They've got the players to at least be scratching at a .500 season. You watch them and the lack of coaching is clear. Better coach, same squad, and they would be a middle of the pack team in this conference.

Just an idea, UConn won national championships as a member of the AAC which no one else has come close to doing period. They have carried the conference in basketball, ask them what they think of this conference.

UCF might be one of them you never know,if that were to be the case wouldn't you love it. Adding teams isn't the solution but UCF making the tourney is a giant step in the right direction.

I understand the reasoning.
However, there is also the history that says emphatically that conferences at this level (any level?) will eventually fail.
Reasonable folks can have differing opinions and mine is that universities that are successful in football will eventually leave mixed conferences. They always have.
I don't think that the overall perception of the conference would improve a bit with any of the BE programs, but the complications in conference affairs would increase significantly.
I do appreciate the desire to improve the conference's basketball performance, and that would probably improve.

the conference sucks regardless of what my team is doing or not doing. UC is adding to the suckiness of the conference but even if we were #1 in the nation it wouldnt change the one simple fact: THIS CONFERENCE SUCKS
1 bid??????????
The Great Midwest used to get three and four bids...out of 7 teams total.
