She's saying some nice things about Larry, but sounds like she's not going to get specific about things from her perspective, which is classy but doesn't make for great radio.

her comment about, "we are developing a profile to determine........" struck me as what should be the path.......

any presser is going to involve rhetorical responses.....but if true, I give a grade of A on that comment....

and she just mentioned personality and the connection between personality and recruiting with the state.....

the bottom line is going to be in the hire.....I wish the road runners nothing but good luck with the hire.....the conference will only become stronger if he creates a foundation for continued success....

edit: wow.....the emotional brain fart silence with the closing comment.....that's what women do....just golly woman....

She seemed pretty emotional (genuinely upset) throughout her speech and probably had a rough day of dealing with this somewhat unexpectedly. A few silences trying to find the right words was to be expected. Couldn't see her to put body language into context but it didn't bother me much.

I got roasted for my comments a couple of months ago about our female commish.....I try to tread lightly, but my position about certain job titles and gender hasn't changed....

I don't sugar coat anything in pc 21st century vein.....it's a job man......

emotion went exit stage left back in the '90s

business is a brutal world......and when emotion comes into play.......I say hell no!

how would you like it if hilarioius suit pants got elected and started crying during the state of the union?

that posit is just bs pc bs.......I will not prescribe to that weakness.....if it ever became personal in my previous lives, I cried internally and did it in private....

fk anything else....I wouldn't hire that....not ever.....not ever.....

business it is.....survival it is....money it is....

rant over....

disclaimer: not pickin' on you.....but there are certain thingys that are stuck in my craw that I can't get past.....there are just some things that men do.....women are strong and can self sustain.....but put 'em in a ring of fire that they are unequipped to handle through the experience of life to the current time and they have easily shown how they will fold a hand that should be bluffed.....

call me whatever pc slam bang meme blah blah blah.....I really don't care....

Obama the "man" just cried giving his speech the other night. And that **** wasn't heartfelt or real.

What Coker, Schnellenberger and Curry and the like did for startups cannot be discounted. Especially since they were established coaches who could easily have stayed home or continued to make money commentating. Add to that the fact that start up fan bases have unrealistic expectations (the first question Coach Curry fielded from a fan after being introduced as GSU HC was "when do we play Georgia?") and you really can't win. You're in a situation where invariably you will establish the foundation and leave with a losing record at the same time that fans are asking five or seven seasons in why you are not playing in the Orange Bowl. Hopefully they keep Coker close to the program.

The anti-woman rant I just read in this thread is pretty disgusting and 100% uncalled for. Shocked mods haven't removed it yet....

Anyway, I think this move had to be made. Bring some youth and more energy into the program. Like other have said, you already have a solid fan base. After a couple of winning seasons, UTSA could be quite the football program.

I think so too. Not only the local alumni but the only show in 1.5 million town and in a nice indoor stadium.

I'm sure UTSA is interested in Applewhite and not only would that be IMO a good hire, it would also be potential candidate taken from against Texas State

According to some posters on the Texas State board, Applewhite tried to reschedule his meeting with their AD, but after talking to him on the phone, he withdrew his name

Hope you guys make a good hire.

How about going after Bailiff? He knows Texas recruiting, familiar with your area, has had unprecedented success at Rice, at least according to some, and could use a change of scenery and lesser recruiting restrictions. Plus, believes in the meercat. What's not to like?

Ha, ha...exactly. Yet Bailiff is somehow a hero and savior to the majority of our board. Go figure. That would be similar in some ways to UTSA equating Coker to a coach who should have been coach for life. Good thing for you that UTSA is smarter than Rice in football.

Stay clear of Mumme. He coached our nemesis the Enemas U. Aggies and couldn't do anything for them.

Tony Levine would be a solid hire. What happened at Houston was not his fault.

Exactly. Rice is not a football destination. No one is going to want to coachat a school it is nearly impossible to recruit at because of academics, lack of fans, etc. Bailiff pulled a miracle and won a cusa title there. Man, some fans.

I am critical of decisions Doc makes at times, but damn, i am glad to have him once all is said and done. Schools like Marshall don't get the cream of the crop and its not a destination job, and Rice is probably much lower on the desirable coaching job list.
