My Non Conference Men's Hoops Grades
Just an opinion:

Thompson A he and Nazione play with passion and fire ALL game long. Love to watch him play and watch him grow.

Nazione A Take his heart and hustle and put with Raven Lee's talent and you'd have a NBA caliber player. Really has grown as a player this year.

Toney B Perfect living definition of a hybrid guard, not a true point. Love how he takes to the hoop. Overall solid game on defense and offense. On a team looking for a leader he could be the one.

Mangum B- Doesn't lack confidence I'll give him that. Loses focus at times, average passer, needs to think pass first rather than shot first.

Bond B- Human highlight film on defense and offense but what happens between the highlights has been inconsistent especially on offense.

Price B Has grown as a defensive player, needs to be a better passer more patient in shot selection.

Lee C+ Earns this grade in part due to 6 game suspension, appears to have poor attitude since his return, coach and player not on the same book let alone page. Need to realize that he needs to revolve around the team rather than the team revolve around him.

Martin (B Despite limited minutes they are always productive minutes.

The following received incomplete but I'll comment:

Nobles you can see potential but he'll have to add 10-15 pounds of muscle in order to fully realize it. Its up to him and the weight room.

Stone- why burn a redshirt, more on court speed than anyone on the roster is he the point guard of the future? Redshirt next year?

Alvano-beginning to believe he isn't the point guard of the future, hasn't really grown as a player from his frosh year, getting very limited opportunities on a guard heavy team.

Perry-solid student athlete but again crowded backcourt limits opportunities to showcase talents.

Feel free to discuss or disagree. For discussion purposes.

By the way this team is entertaining to watch, alot like football the offense has really improved.

Very generous grades for Toney, Mangum, Bond, and Price.

Agreed. I'd go half a grade lower on each, and drop Lee to a C-.

To me Toney is slightly better than the other three. Mangum, Bond and Price all have "holes" in their game.

i'm not into Toney so far. he has no problem barreling into traffic and getting blocked. same with Mangum. Lee is the only one of the three who is looking to pass once he takes 2+ steps towards the hoop. if you're grading Price on how well he plays his role (3 & D) then he's improved from last year, but i'm still reluctant to give him more than a C. i love Timmy Bond and might just irrationally give him an A.

Couple of thoughts on Bond:

1). Other than a reliable outside shot, he has a lot of abilities from pushing the ball, driving (and d*nking) and finishing, covering a lot of ground on defense, etc. Does he try to do too much defensively, either cheating or trying to help the guard, on his side, out by covering some of his zone? (need to know which guard is on his side of the court defensively. I doubt any of our guards would be considered really good defenders in the zone).

2). Bond is now a 2nd semester sophomore who didn't play his 1st semester because of injury. He has plenty of opportunity to improve. The abilities are certainly there. Much different comparing his upside to a JUCO who should be pretty much a 'finished product.'

What's funny is Mangum is shooting nearly 47% on 2 point field goals, which isn't bad for an undersized SG. If he stopped shooting so many deep threes, he'd be a very efficient scoring guard. He's been better the last few games, but he still takes too many outside shots.

good point. i think i focus a lot more on his cold streaks than his hot streaks. i get frustrated when guys put their heads down and start dribbling. if it works it works.
