He could pass Scott with any luck and no injuries.

Remember, many of the guys on the list played less games than Evans will, as the seasons were somewhat shorter. Still, pretty good start by Evans:

RICE FRESHMAN SCORING
1. 427 Brent Scott 1989-90
2. 416 David Willie 1987-88
3. 412 Elbert Darden 1975-76
4. 382 Frank Thomas 1976-77
5. 370 Michael Harris 2001-02
6. 364 Marcus Evans 2015-16
7. 342 Sean Obi 2013-14
8. 341 Kenneth Rourke 1988-89
9. 334 Tamir Jackson 2009-10
10. 321 Dana Hardy 1988-89

Pretty good is a bit of an understatement. With 13 regular season games left to go, if Evans keeps up his scoring average, he will CRUSH the scoring record by almost 200 points. He is on pace to have the best freshman year ever by a Rice Owl in regards to scoring, and probably regardless of the length of a season.

I tried desperately to find some online database of at least team records from 1990, but couldn't find anything. How much shorter were they back in the day?

Rhodes has a good ways to go to match the recruiting that Scott Thomson did out of the shoot.

Here's a ton of historical data. Brent Scott played 28 games his freshman year. (The scanned stat sheet only shows 27, but team record shows 28 played.)

http://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/rice/

This year's team has 31 scheduled games, and Evans hasn't missed one yet. *knock on wood*

Riceowls.com has also had a yearly basketball "Fact book" for some years that has had a lot of historical information. The one on the website now is the 2014-15 edition...maybe making a new one this year was cut out of the budget. Or I somehow missed it.
