AL.Com - UAB Blazers basketball creating buzz with stunning comebacks.
Excerpt:

Middle Tennessee State was without star guard Giddy Potts, and that's going to devalue this conference opener a bit, but the Blazers' depth off the bench is that of a solid mid-major. C-USA's abysmal RPI (the league was ranked 21st entering Sunday) likely makes it a one-bid league, but UAB has the bones of a team that can make a run in the NCAA Tournament.

Also from that article:

"All that and UAB not only won its eighth game in a row, but managed to extended its streak of double-digit victories to five. UAB (11-3, 1-0), which never lost at home in 2015, has now won 19 consecutive games in Birmingham. That streak includes 17 in a row at Bartow, or two shy of the school record.

No wonder it's so difficult to convince a decent out-of-conference foe to visit Birmingham these days."

Keep this in mind when you next want to start bitching about the home schedule.

Well, I have never bitched about our home schedule. I've bitched about a lot of other things but never about basketball scheduling. I posted that excerpt because it was the first time I saw a UAB beat writer refer to us as a "mid major". And yes I know UAB is a basketball mid major now but it is still kinda surreal to read it in your own newspaper.

No doubt. Wouldn't be surprised if Auburn is our only quality OOC opponent at home next year.

I like the "Southside Dragons" nickname. Sounds like a street gang that sings show tunes

If we make another run to the tournament, we better at least find some decent mid majors to come play us. I'm not asking to have duke or Kansas come play in bartow, but I am asking to see Belmont or mercer or coastal Carolina instead of Seattle.

How many? Georgia State and SFA would seemed to have fit your request (preseason)

Both of those were excellent scheduling additions. We can play the front end of similar series on the road too. I think we need to schedule 6-8 teams of this caliber ooc if our conference is going to continue to be what it is. We don't ever seem to look to the Mac, but they currently have 6 teams in the top 116. I'm not even asking to play the best mid majors, just decent ones.

Well that's a self-fulfilling prophecy if I've ever seen one.

The average RPI of a home opponent for UAB is 215 this season. Why would we NOT be on a home win streak?

He's referring to the bench, not the whole team. Our 5 off the bench would make for a solid mid-major team & could beat a lot of folks on their own... there's no doubting that.

And Joseph Goodman is a UAB guy at heart, but he's not our beat writer.
