Great opportunity for UB to start MAC play with games against Akron and Kent State.

hopefully everyone will be converted to ESPN3 by next season so we won't have to check and see which conference match ups are on it or not.

I don't want to go O/T or hijack this thread, but is it still a year or two before the renewal (new terms) of the ESPN contract 'fully' kicks in, i.e., everyone has to have moved over to ESPN3 production of games, ESPN increases the rights fees, etc. etc.
As I understand it, we are still in the existing contract and new terms have not fully kicked in yet. New terms kick in after the current contract expires? Correct???

The current ESPN/MAC contract for 2007-2016 is 10yr/$14M, or $1.4M/yr.
ESPN voluntarily reopened negotiations on this contract to change the payout for the final 3yrs ('14-'16) from $1.4M/yr to $8M/yr.
The new ESPN/MAC contract for 2017-2026 is 10yr/$100M, or $10M/yr.
Part of the agreement was that ESPN would agree to broadcast more MAC sports like bball, volleyball, wrestling etc. on the condition that every MAC school commit to upgrading their broadcasting capabilities to ESPN standards. The MAC would have 4 years ('14-'17) to do it. The costs per school will vary depending on the state of their equipment but the extra $20M added to the current contract can be used to help offset those costs.
The MAC decided that 4yrs to convert 12 schools would mean an avg of 3 schools/yr with the schools most ready to upgrade going first. In year one (2014) the three schools that upgraded were NIU, CMU and Buffalo. In year two (2015) five more schools completed the upgrade and the final four schools are likely to upgrade in 2016.

The MAC is 10th right now in the RPI, is this a high water mark for this conference?

Thanks. Excellent info. I believe EMU received some $ to upgrade their production facilities which they have done for this athletic year.
I wasn't sure how much of the 'new monies' MAC teams have been receiving.

No, in 1999 the MAC finished 9th. I believe this was the last time the league got 2 teams in the NCAA tourney. Miami was a Sweet 16 team (Wally World) and KSU got in by beating Miami in the MAC tournament.

MAC was really good last year. I believe that this year is the down year following an up year...
I would not be surprised to see the MAC cycle up next year... EMU might be much better. WMU could be much better with Tava back. NIU.
