After our new football stadium is built,
I'd love to see the city go after the Senior Bowl.

Let's go after the Senior Bowl AND the Alabama vs Miss. HS All Star game.

No way we'll get it...Mobile has got that thing on political lock.
I'd rather see us going after the high school championship rotation again.

Talk about politics and Alabama...it'll be harder to get that away from the Auburn AND Alabama campuses than the Senior Bowl. The AL-MS All-Start game is the most realistic goal and even then you'll have to fight the heart of Alabama politics to get it. These "fights" would be all about principle more than anything else...

I think we can make a viable case for getting into the Super Six rotation. It was held at Legion Field for many years because that was a central location. I know that it's a recruiting tool for UA/AU, but with a shiny new stadium in the 'ham, we can at least try.
As to the Senior Bowl, Phil Savage would die at the fifty yard line before that one moved.

Both would be a tooth & nail knock down drag out fight to the death w/ the hs being the easiest of the 2 but we definitely could do a senior bowl

RE: After our new football stadium is built,
It should be a no-brainer to move he Super-6 back to Birmingham, once the new stadium is finished. 1. More (and better) motels/hotels, 2. Better restaurants, and more of them. 3. The atmosphere would be much better. Bryant-Denny and JH are waaaay too large. 5,000-10,000, or even 25,000 in a 102,000 seat stadium does not get it! 4. Alabama and Auburn doesn't recruit very many in-state players anyway.

"No-brainer" pretty well describes Alabama politics.
If Birmingham makes a push for it, then it's likely to happen - as a bargaining chip thrown on the table to protect the Machine's sacred lock on the Trustees, much like the bond-issue approval this year.
I suppose it's progress to erode UAT entitlement wherever possible, but this just isn't worth spending our limited political capital.

RE: After our new football stadium is built,
I'm not sure Alabama or Auburn need the hs title games for recuiting tools. I've heard from some at each university that it really doesn't matter much to either staff. I think high school coaches miss the central location.

RE: After our new football stadium is built,
On various broadcasts of the state championship games, it's been mentioned by announcers and officials from the AHSAA that is a huge treat for high school ball players to play in both of the big college stadiums. Considering most of the kids are probably pretty familiar with the teams, I'm sure it's a dream come true for the kids, especially the ones from small high schools, to play in those stadiums. So I think that factors into the choice a lot. However, assuming a shiny new indoor stadium is built in the Ham, I'm sure kids would be just as excited to play there.

RE: After our new football stadium is built,
I think Steve Savarese, Executive Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Association, has been pretty consistent in chasing the most money when awarding post-season and out-of-season sites. But, then again, there was never any real opposition to his decisions. Perhaps because most were foregone conclusions anyway...

You are right about that. Count me as one who doesn't like a lot of his moves. I still think the decision to needlessly create 7A was a dumb decision.

RE: After our new football stadium is built,
Senior Bowl is NOT moving from Mobile any time soon. Getting back into the Super 6/7 rotation is a much more viable alternative. The city can make noise and throw some perk$ at the AHSAA to make it happen.

And UAB wasn't bringing football back any time soon. The question isn't who's going to let us. The question is who's going to stop us.

Easy answer. The Senior Bowl will stop us. They aren't going to move from Mobile to Birmingham. They have a permanent office and museum in Mobile.
Only one time in its history has the Senior Bowl NOT been held in Mobile...and that was its first year of existence.

They may not...but they'll think they need to keep us from having it for a recruiting tool.

RE: After our new football stadium is built,
If Savarese continues to choose the money over all else, perhaps North quarterfinal games in the new downtown stadium and the South quarterfinals at Troy or ASU's stadium. The high schools wouldn't like that, though...
