I'm sure this thread linked on the BE board is a meaningless 'net rumor, but some of the posts are very interesting. I found some remarks about the overall worth of Pitt somewhat surprising, although I think they and Syracuse are often overrated, especially Pitt.

I find it interesting that many posts on BE boards are about future defections, additions etc. It seems evident that conference is in as much flux as C-USA at the present time, the big difference being BC$!

I wouldnt put much into what a bunch of fans say... it only matters what school leaders think. WV bitched all the way thru this... some of their nutty fans thought they would end up SEC before it was all done.. bottom line is no one is likely to expand.. so the current be people are going no where for 5 years.. if BE splits then they will add either 1 or 4... but as a conf they have many unhappy campers as far as fans go.

One thing to remember is that WVU fans tend to be like rabid dogs that believe that WVU football is the best thing since sliced bread.

Also, visiting fans be warned, you may not survive the trip to Morganton(sp?).

  WVU in the Big Ten?  I somehow don't see them fitting academically.  Big Ten wants ND First and Foremost. I doubt they would ever take any other team.

The one thing written in that thread that seems completely plausable to me is:

QUOTE ----

"I have no illusions about the difficulty in landing the 9th team. ECU is out per our handshake deal with the ACC. We wont be doing much with them except scheduling games."

---- END OF QUOTE

Let me see if I can guess this "handshake deal" correctly. The ACC promised to leave the Big East alone going forward if the Big East schools promise to never consider adding ECU to their conference. Is that about right?

This would not suprise me in the least if this is the case. The ACC's North Carolina "Big 4" is paranoid about ECU... always have been. Those snakes will go to any lengths and sink to the deepest of depths to keep the Pirates from competing on a level playing field (BCS). They know better than anyone of ECU's potential... and it terrifies them.

CUSA is much more stable right now than the Big Least, Memphis and ECU fans notwithstanding.

WVU fans say bad ****** about Pitt. Now THERE's a news flash.

I suspect these "Big East rumbles" have more to do with yesterday's chili dogs than they do with substance.

West Virginia is stuck in the BE unless the Big 12 gets Arkansas, then the SEC might take them bc they are the only school in the region that fits the SEC profile.

If you want to take an 'outsiders perspective' at how all of this fire BB/bowl shuffling madness looks to the normal people, check out MWCBoard. RebelRobert (=well-established raving lunatic) is just going off on the Emerald Bowl picking the ACC over the MWC.

Good reading, and too much like what alot of folks are like on here.

I agree, we should only berate the ACC and the SEC. They are the true elitist bastages that have done the most to keep us down!

Didn't TCU's leaders think bringing SMU, Tulsa and Rice into C-USA was a good idea? Didn't certain wealthy fans cause a 180 deg reversal? Do not dismiss the influence of certain "fans".

You also notice that he states CUSA will implode within 2 seasons and no longer exist.

Conference realignment is still a viable topic. Anything that happens will almost certainly impact C-USA.

In addition, reading threads like these are a real insight into the opinions in other parts of the country. Most notably, other than ECU, not a single C-USA school was even mentioned in that thread. That should make the ECU folks happy, but it just goes to show the rest of us that we really are in a different world than the Big East folks - and therefore, we should be in a different conference.

WVU fans are very familiar with ECU FB having played them numerous times in recent history and also know that ECU courted the BE so their mentioning of ECU doesn't surprise me.

Also I would say most non BCS conferences would become "unstable" if any of the BCS conferences start adding members (which the BE would do if there were defections).

Where would any of the Big East schools defect to?
