Is it time for Houston to be offered a spot in the B12? Univ Texas has to be watching.

I'm sure UT is watching all the games this week. It's just hard for me to believe the BIG12 will invite UoH. I'm not saying they don't deserve a P5 spot because I think they do. What always hangs me up is there are so many Texas schools in the Big12 already adding another seems like a stretch. A stretch because it doesn't really increase markets into other states and recruiting. Maybe I'm wrong but I just can't see a overwhelming reason UoH will get a BIG12 invite.

Yes and yes. All of Texas is watching including A&M, Tech, Baylor, and TCU. Baylor wouldn't have Briles unless it was for UH giving him a shot as a head coach. A&M wouldn't have Sumlin unless it was for UH giving him a shot as a head coach. We know football at UH and the rest of Texas knows this as well, very well. Go Coogs!!!

The Big12 has lost it's market share in Houston. Since A&M joined the SEC, more Houstonians watch the SEC now. Go Coogs!!!

Tend to agree that the B12 is a long shot for UH because none of the current TX members want another hot feeding at their trough.

But as I've said here, I think the PAC is watching and liking what they see.

It's been heavily rumored that the PAC is talking with us. This is info I've received via others who appear to be connected to those in the know. In fact, a lot of the metrics for the recent upgrades in facilities were supposedly established by the PAC. I'm not so sure of the PAC interest myself, although if they offered I'm sure we would accept. Go Coogs!!!

Houston may deserve a P5 invite but they can't change their geography.

Houston has tons to offer, but to go to the B12 would just be redundant. Texas is competing with UH for recruits right now, and losing. Does anyone believe that UT is going to give up its only given advantage to another Texas program?

Agree but, it's exactly that coupled with our continued and consistent success that creates our value. Go Coogs!!

Exactly however, for this specific reason Texas may need to take Houston to prevent yet another conference from poaching off recruits from the greater Houston area. Go Coogs!!!

The thing is, the Big-12 is already losing Houston. Of the top 10 rated college football games in Houston, only 2 are Big-12 games. The lowly G5 AAC has just as many Houston top 10 games (2---both of which are Houston games). The SEC on the other hand has SIX of the top 10 rated games on Houston TV in 2015.

The Houston area metro has 72 recruits ranked 3 stars or better. Texas as a state, has 155 ranked 3 starts or better. So nearly half of the states top D1 talent is in the Houston metro area. The Big-12's recruiting success has dropped off significantly in the Houston metro area since A&M left for the SEC. On the other hand, the SEC recruiting success has increased significantly in the Houston metro area due to the lack of Big 12 representation in SE Texas. That vacuum has also allowed UH recruiting to tick upward as well since the Aggie Big-12 outpost in SE Texas no longer gives B12 teams (especially the out of state B12 teams) regular games in the area.

Thus, the idea of Texas teams not wanting to give Houston a leg up in recruiting is a misnomer. The Big-12 has already largely lost that battle in the Houston area. The only way to get back their former domination in southeast Texas is to start playing regular conference games inside the Houston metro area. The worse case scenario for the Big12 is for another P5 to add Houston---which would put a THIRD P5 conference scooping recruits from the area.

For those interested, some interesting number crunching on Houston Metro recruiting was recently done by Coog blogger. The SEC has been a big winner since the Aggie move.
