Count me though as not believing for a second it will happen. The current system is perfect for those in power. Withholding allows them reach directly into your pocket every paycheck and allows them an accurate prediction of your future labor to borrow against. They are not going to give up the ability to keep you in slavery.

Still banging the "more taxes" drum, I see. I'm in a state that is overtaxed as it is, why do insist I pay more taxes?

You do understand that all of these proposals.. replace..not add to the current system? You really should do more looking into this stuff before posting more ignorance.07-coffee3

I looked into that link you posted some time ago, and I don't like it one bit. More taxes is what the bill is intended to be. You think its not. I don't know what ignorance you speak of, unless you mean advocating for less taxes is somehow ignorant. I can't be sure, I'm not a mind reader.
There would be zero increase taxes under HR25(Fairtax) for anyone. It was designed by independent and bipartisan economic experts to be revenue neutral. It would though end confiscatory Federal taxation through withholding by abolishing the 16th amendment, end the need to file returns and totally untax the working poor with a monthly prebate to cover their expenses. The assertion that HR25 would increase taxes is simply false. It is though highly likely to increase revenue by capturing taxes from profits of illegal activities, tax evasion and foreign tourism since it is based upon consumption and spending on new goods. You can simply state "I don't like it."...but...if the reason is that you feel it would increase your tax burden?...Then I assume that you are either a criminal, tax evader or foreign tourist.

Worse, I'm a resident of Connecticut. I'm taxed more ways than you can count and then some. I want ZERO new taxes, and I feel HR 25 increases taxes. You say it's bipartisan, yet it originated with a Republican. Also, that damn bill is so mired in legalese, how do they expect a non-lawyer (such as myself) to make heads or tails out of it?

You probably didn't like Obamacare either because you just knew something didn't add up. These things are always theoretical until implemented. I personally, do not believe the IRS should be in the business of giving people an EIC, a stipend, a "rebate" or anything else like that through the tax code. When you start that, then you wind up with wealth redistribution and the minimum income levels and payment amounts will get out of hand and eventually will need to be offset by increases in the sales tax amount or instituting a tax on corporate payrolls (an indirect income tax).
