The FY 2017 IBHE budget appropriation recommendation is in to the Illinois General Assembly (Black Hole). Though none of this could come to fruition, some interesting tidbits.

The IBHE is recommending a capital improvement appropriation of 144M for NIU, the second highest in the state behind UofI 161M. This is the Board recommending these figures, each school requests an amount much higher than this.

Noteworthy items NIU wants to use it on:

-New Computer Science, Health Information and Technology Center (65M)
-Renovate Wirtz Hall to be the home of the Health and Human Sciences College. (20M)

Hopefully the state doesn't screw the pooch on this one. I hope that it can stop the hiring freeze for new professors. Maybe throw a couple dollars at the music building.... I could go on for days.

How often to they usually grant what the board wants?

The comp sci building has been #1 on the to build list between all public State Universities and Colleges for several years.
