Barry Rozner
NIU alum Barry Rozner is on The Score right now, co-hosting with Matt Spiegel. Unfortunately, Rozner is only a sub on The Score; today he is pinch-hitting for Jason Goff.

For me, when Rozner is on, it's must-listen radio. Why? Because he is a fountain of knowledge about most everything sports-related. Listening to him this morning, he has covered (among other things) Chicago baseball, the Hawks, Tiger Woods and golf, and the NFL futures of today's college QBs. The guy simply knows his stuff!

And, of course, Barry is a proud NIU alum and has been a tireless promoter of NIU and Huskie sports, both on the radio and writing for the Daily Herald. From a 2012 article about Rozner receiving a Distinguished Alumni Award from the NIU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences:

Quote:During his time at NIU, Rozner worked at the Northern Star student newspaper until NIU athletic administrator Jerry Ippoliti asked him to start a magazine focused on NIU sports. He said working on the magazine, the Huskie Herald, was a "tremendous opportunity" that taught him a lot about the business.

"I'm humbled," Rozner said. "I'm proud of NIU. It's a great school filled with great professors and great people, and it's really humbling to be honored by a place that I think so much of."

After the 2008 shooting at NIU left five dead, he used his column to express his emotions. The title of his column "Forward, Together Forward," published three days after the shooting, became a rallying cry for the NIU community as it moved past the tragedy.

"The reaction to that column from a lot of people was that I was able to voice for them what they'd been feeling," Rozner said. "That's one terrific advantage to being a columnist, is you have the opportunity to voice not just what you feel, but often times what a lot of people feel."

I have mixed reviews on Barry, love his passion for NIU, but has this way about him that turns me off. He always says things which sounds like he is trying too hard to convince people he knows what he is talking about, or that he is trying to overly hard to gain approval from the fan. He is a bit of a meathead.

YOU calling someone a meathead? That's classic.

At least he covers NIU. And it's not like he's stretching it, there are only 3 division football programs in the state. Might as well cover all 3 instead of just 2 of them (plus TSISB), alum or not. And it's one of the closest Division I basketball programs to Chicago.

To be fair there is Loyola, UIC, DePaul, Northwestern and Chicago State. Valparaiso is also closer to Chicago than DeKalb.

True, although the Daily Herald serves primarily the northwest suburbs and chunks of the north and west suburbs. So, NIU is closer to their coverage area than some of those schools you mentioned.
