what's everyone got?

I just did the game by game, win, loss, loss, win thing and I came up with 7-10, 8-8. i was a little more pessimistic than I thought after going through it.

Still puts us in the 17-12 to 20-9 type of record range, with some upside if they can gel. I think anything better than that requires some more consistency, taking care of leads (killer instinct) and really getting guys to buy into their roles.

For the first time in a while, you can see we have the horses. And we can finally knock down the 3 ball with some consistency. Those 2 are pre-reqs in today's game. Lots of reason for optimism.

Final thought: More Wilson and Porter and less Orris.

I got us going 10-7 in conference for a 21-9 overall record.

This is is we start playing our best freshman more than 18 minutes.

Dude predicated us to go 21-9 in basketball and then proceeded to complain about coaching. Hilarious.

I am concerned about the MAC portion of the schedule. I felt better about this team after 6 games than I do after 12 games. I have them going 7-11

Given the long period of terrible-ness, I'd take 20-9.

This thing is falling apart already, Porter sounds like he is leaving. I just knew this was too good to be true to think we could keep this core together. Although I thought it would last longer than this.

Relax -- it's college sports. I don't know jack about basketball, but I know that this team looks more cohesive (to me) than anything I've seen the last 7+ years.

Now that being said, I do agree that it sucks if he's gone. For real. But it's not worth worrying over until he 1) announces his transfer 2) decides to stay. Otherwise, not much we can do. If that makes sense.

Porter is just frustrated right know with his minutes. It's a little early to say he's leaving but I'm sure he's thought it.

The Nader thing I felt like there is nothing that could be done, he was a child, he wasn't going to change. In this instance, Porter probably is giving up too quickly, but I can see why he is frustrated. Like dekalb222 said, everyone should have to earn minutes, even upperclassmen. Playing time right now is not being handed out in a way that makes sense. Once Porter goes, I really fear when you combine that with Nader, no one is going to want to be play for Montgomery. If Montgomery is not comfortable playing players who are more skilled and up-tempo, then DONT recruit them, because it sure gives NIU basketball a black eye to lose players like this. It just drives me crazy because if this core stayed together, I just KNOW for a fact they would have won at least 1 MAC championship in the next 4 years, not a doubt in my mind.

I don't know if I agree. For basketball, at least, sometimes I feel like there is a growing into period. I honestly think that Porter is upset with his minutes. At that point, though, what are you going to do? Are you gonna learn from it or are you going to take the "easier" road?

Honestly, I would rather guys who want to earn it over guys who want to coach. And you might prefer something else. That's all okay, and I don't think there's a "right" way. I don't think it's necessarily a black eye, really.

Im no basketball expert obviously, its just really frustrating to me seeing this happen, because you could see it coming starting from about Game 5 or 6. Something clicked inside Montgomery's mind where he was not comfortable with the style of play from the freshman. Its like someone who is used to pleasant Sunday afternoon drives all of a sudden being put in the passenger seat of a high performing sports car. Monty prefers the oldsmobile.

When this schedule came out, with the 4 non-D1 schools, people's first instinct was "Wow, Monty must really be desperate to keep this job looking for sure wins". My instinct was against that, I thought he knew he would have a young roster and thought this would be a great way to break them in. I have to be honest, after 12 games and most of the non-conf season complete a part of me feels Monty has done a dis-service to this team and is being somewhat selfish thinking of his own career and not developing what he has. Hearing Monty in these post-games pressers, its over the top to be honest. He acted like beating UIC was a program-changer, it came off to me as selfish and overly self-promoting, desperate, whatever you want to call it. I need to stop posting and rambling about this because this Porter news is completely depressing to me and I feel the coaching staff kind of helped bring this situation on itself.

Wasn't complaining. And that is a prediction if we change things up.

This Porter situation has the potential to go bad real fast! I am sure Monty has seen his tweets by now. Monty has probably already talked to him and the team about it. I would not be surprised if Porter is suspended. Let's hope this gets fixed quickly!

He said he made a bad decision to come to NIU. That's pretty bad

Saying you are frustrated isn't a big deal. Saying, I should have made a better decision than this is. He's clearly talking about coming to NIU. I actually posted before Porter even got here that he would leave after a year. Cagey posted, the kid hasn't even got here and you already have him leaving. I just new he would be behind Baker and Orris and would be impatient. He thinks he's the next Fred Vanvleet from Rockford Auburn. He sees his ex teammate(Pittman) starting at Bradley as a freshman and thinks he's getting screwed over here. I truly hope this gets fixed quickly but Maddawg does have a valid point. You have to be very upset when you start tweeting crap like that. Many players are pissed about minutes but they don't tweet it!

So I may have jumped the gun and assumed they weren't bad. Went and looked at them finally. Not good. You guys are right.
