2016 CUSA Bowls and the hard turn to the west...
I was looking at the bowl agreements for 2016 and noticed that we take a pretty significant turn for one year from the east coast. It appears this is our bowl lineup next year...

2016 CUSA Bowls
-------------
Dallas Bowl vs. Big 10
Boca Raton Bowl vs. AAC
New Orleans Bowl vs. Sun Belt
Hawaii Bowl vs. MWC
New Mexico Bowl vs. MWC
Arizona Bowl (?) vs. MWC

Though we return to all of these bowls, in 2016 the east coast bowl agreements are as follows...

Bahamas Bowl is AAC vs. MAC
Miami Beach Bowl is AAC vs. MAC
St. Petersburg Bowl is AAC vs. ACC

A lot of MWC in our bowls next year. To me, this looks as if the East Division teams simply have Boca as the fan friendly travel bowl, and New Orleans and Hawaii as destination bowls. Not going to be a good year for a lot of East Division bowl teams coming up.

Looks like Marshall is going to Boca to play an AAC East team. Unless the Herd can go undefeated.

Yeah, bummer to lose to St. Pete Bowl for next year... Boca essentially replaces Miami Beach. And Bahamas isn't really an "easy travel bowl" so I don't count that. I would think that New Orleans might be a bowl for the east next year. Not really much worse in terms of travel for schools like MT and WKU than a Florida bowl.

Louisiana Tech to Dallas and Southern Miss to New Orleans would seem to be choice picks for them.

CUSA needs another P5 opponent bowl tie-in for the East Division Champs.

We need to drop the Sunbelt bowl and replace it with the Independence or Liberty Bowl. Nothing is gain from playing a Sunbelt in a Bowl, jmo

We need to get better as a conference and fill all of our tie-ins.

Hopefully out West UTSA (NM), UTEP (Ari) and Rice (HI) go bowling next year.

We need to get the AAC's spot in the Birmingham Bowl.

Indy isn't going to drop a P5 tie-in. We just passed a hotel tax to increase the payout.

If Rice goes to a bowl, they won't be sent to Hawaii for the second time in three years. If those three teams are eligible, I think they'd send UTEP to Hawaii, Winner of UTSA/Rice to NM, and loser to AZ.

12th place ACC vs 12th place SEC, how long is that scheduled for?

That's why they're increasing the payout.

No way they send UTEP to Hawaii if the NM or Arizona bowl is available. We are about four hours away from Tucson or Albuquerque. We can be counted on five thousand or more to make the drive and book Hotels in either city.

The Hawaii bowl needs to go away. They should schedule a Pac 12 team vs a MW team. I don't know if any school from CUSA can send a good crowd to the islands.

Agreed. In that scenario I think we send UTSA to Hawaii.

I was just thinking that they wouldn't send UTSA to Hawaii for their first bowl game.. If the Arizona Bowl doesn't get a TV deal with ESPN or Fox, I wonder if it will go away.

This is a byproduct of having the conference headquartered in Texas. We need to get that fixed, they should move it to Birmingham or Atlanta.
