And I'm still glad I made trip.

Glad I made it too and will happily go again, despite the warts. A chance to play an "autonomy 5" opponent in a big-time atmosphere only 200 miles away as opposed to traveling 800 miles or over to play a Sunbelt or C-USA school in a sparsely crowded stadium is an easy choice for me. When/if we go to the Birmingham Bowl again I will allow an extra hour to get in and out of the stadium parking lot. I'll bet those of us who were there will be more appreciative of our own traffic control after games here.

Park in one of the lots around the stadium. There will be parking in a big grass field to the west of the stadium. If you park on the street and someone asks you to pay them to "watch your car" then do it. Don't ask any questions.

We paid $10 to some guy to park on a residential street. Definitely see what you meant.

It's a shakedown unique to Legion Field. I've parked with my family on a side street for Tigers games my entire life and have never had such a problem. There's nothing you can do about it if you want to park there. I've heard stories (not apocryphal) of people whose tires were slashed or cars broken into when they didn't pay and others in their groups did pay and didn't have any problems.

Yeah, I dare anyone to ever again say Cooper-Young is dangerous.

Uhhh.... It's not Cooper-Young that people are worried about. It's a little North and East of there.

North of CY are the large homes on Parkway and nice Midtown areas, except for some commercial area long the rr tracks.
East of CY is the Fairgrounds.

Maybe you meant south into Orange Mound.

But I get the distinct feeling people are afraid to park across Parkway to the west on the CY streets, just across from Tiger Lane.

RE: Where to park at Legion Field?
I figured parking would be a nightmare. We left the Westin around 7:25-7:30. No problem getting to the stadium and getting parking on the east side of the stadium. We left that screw job of a game with about 5 minutes left ant were back at our hotel within 35-40 minutes of getting to our car.

I will never complain about the Liberty Bowl again...well, at least not for a few weeks.

Picked up a buddy and his wife at the Westin at 8:00. Entered from 59/Arkadelphia and parked on the west side of stadium right behind press box in less than 30 min. for $10.

Left the same way reversed and stadium to 59 via Arkadelphia took over 45 min. to go 1/2 a mile.

No, I meant Northeast of CY... as in Hollywood. Drive down Hollywood from the stadium to Sam Cooper as the sun is setting. You'll see what I mean.

Oh, you meant my hood! I'm very familiar with that area. I am next to Chickasaw Gardens off Poplar. Some years ago, I quit stopping in to the Sonic on Poplar there, and I NEVER hit the gas station on the corner of Poplar and Hollywood. Memphis is really a patchwork quilt. There are big plans for that whole area near the end of the interstate that hopefully will bring some improvement.
