2,000 Thugs fight at Mall St. Matthew
Up to 2,000 in fights at Mall St. Matthews
David Harten, The Courier-Journal

As many as 2,000 people, mostly juveniles, caused multiple disturbances and fights at the Mall St. Matthews Saturday evening, prompting police from four agencies to respond and forcing the shopping center to close early, police said. WHAS11

St. Matthews was supposed to be in the "good" part of town, Louisville's East End.

Jefferson Mall, in Okolona (South End) has had problems with unsupervised youths for years.

Bashford Manor Mall, near Fern Creek and Buechel, actually was demolished and was rebuilt as a free standing shopping center. Bashford Manor had a reputation for problems with unsupervised youths prior to its closure.

Oxmoor Center in Lyndon, which is on the other side of I-264 from Mall St. Matthews, so far has not had the issues that the other malls have had. I have heard there is no TARC (public transportation) stop there, but given its proximity to Mall St. Matthews, that may be little consolation.

How is having a Mall make where someone lives a dangerous area?

I've 2 or 3 nearby, does that somehow put me in danger?

I live 3 miles from there. It is a nice area. Social media brought them together there from Louisville's West End and Newburg areas where They are known as rival "Hoods". Many of these youths are probably among the same groups that last year attacked people on the river fronts new walkway bridge that crosses the Ohio river. There were over a thousand in that group of attackers. Another reason for Law enforcement to be allowed to monitor social media web sights. They do it for sex offenders why not terrorist and gang activity.

LOL it was about 60 or 70 that came in by bus from the rough part of town. When they started acting up, all the other teens (about 1K or so) started running. So the cops just assumed every teen there was involved. Greatly exaggerated story.

60 or 70 is still mob activity. How many were arrested and booked?

They find the guns used?

None were arrested and No guns were found or used. Both area Malls today enacted a Curfew for teens under 17 on Friday - Sunday at 7pm until further notice. Must be accompanied by someone over 21.
No thefts or damage have been reported so far. There were some injuries reported mostly from kids running and knocking people down or from jumping out of Their way. My Wife and Daughter had just left the mall 15 minutes earlier and hadn't noticed anything but They were on the other end of the Mall at JC Penny.
