If you followed closely, you could see real improvement the last 4 games maybe more.

That would fall more on the position coach

Disagree. We peaked with Old Miss. The next 5 games we gave up way more than our opponents were averaging. Except SMU. The exception.
And that's the deciding factor for me. Whether young, or new scheme, or even slower - we did not improve the back half of the year.
Galen will go to a P5 as a secondary or lb coach, and will do really well under a strong DC. Then in 4 years, he will get another shot at DC and may do very well next time.

I agree. I think that the position coach is responsible for instilling the position fundamentals and the tips for success in a player. Coach Scott did a fairly decent job his first time at bat (i.e., given the youth and lack of speed in the defensive backfield).
The coordinators and head coach are more concerned with how the team performs as a unit. They may notice when a player is not performing well, but they rely upon the position coach to tell them which players will perform well once they are on the field ...

Didn't Memphis lose 3 of the last 4 games it played? Not that db's were the reason.

We did but that had alot to do with offense being bad during that stretch.
