Big Bowl Day! Predictions ....
Numerically, this is the biggest day of bowl season. Six Bowl games today, including our first P5 vs P5 matchups. Here's who I like:
St Pete Bowl: UConn vs Marshall
Marshall probably has the better team, but UConn has been playing with more passion recently. This will be a very entertaining bowl, but I expect UConn to pull it out, 27 - 24.
Sun Bowl: Miami vs Washington State
This looks to be very competitive. Massey has these teams at #40 and #41 respectively and both had decent seasons under the radar. Travel isn't an issue as both teams came more than 1,500 miles for this one. But I think weather will decide this. I recall how Miami froze up in this game vs Notre Dame a few years back and today's temperature looks to be in the low 40s. Washington State 30, Miami 17
Heart of Dallas: Washington vs USM
Washington is 6-6, resurgent Southern Miss is 9-4. I love the way USM has rebounded this season after a few dreadful ones, and would love to pick them. But, Washington is the best 6-6 team in the country, they played a tough schedule. Played every good PAC team, beat USC, and lost to all the others very respectably.
So regrettfully, Washington 35, USM 19
Pinstripe: Duke vs Indiana
Sounds like an exciting Regional Final in the NCAA tournament, eh? But it might not be a bad football game. Duke was a disappointing 7-5, they never recovered from the screw-job vs Miami. Indiana posted a 6-6 record but played a tough schedule. They beat Western Kentucky and played everyone but Michigan State very tough. I don't think Duke is out of their funk so ... Indiana 23, Duke 17.
Independence Bowl: Tulsa vs Virginia Tech
Although both teams are 6-6, this looks like a mismatch. VT played a much tougher schedule, has more talent, and is looking to send their semi-iconic coach out as a winner. That will be enough against Tulsa ... VT 42, Tulsa 24
San Francisco Bowl: UCLA vs Nebraksa
On paper, a big mismatch. Nebraska is one of those obscene 5-7 bowl teams, UCLA went 8-4 against a tough PAC schedule. I'd pick UCLA by 20 but Nebraska did beat Michigan State. UCLA 33, Nebraska 28
