Soft schedule?? Not sure I agree with that! San Diego State beat Boise, won the Mountain West and obliterated Cincinnati last night in the Hawaii Bowl. We are also at USF who almost won the American conference. They have a dynamic QB that will give us fits. Don't know anything about Wyoming with the exception it is on the road. If we win 2 of those first three it will be impressive! I also expect San Diego State to start the season ranked or receiving many votes. Healthy Drew Hare would mean a lot. Not a huge fan of offensive play calling but without a decent QB it's hard to be effective.

Either way, it doesn't bode well for Coach Carey and his future at NIU.
This is pretty spot on. Sure didn't look like a 100% effort from the team to me.

Yep. The effort was not there. For sure, we've seen this before in the post-season.

Aren't you tired of caring about MAC wins just to get stomped at the end of the season?
And the 3 Big Ten wins were against BAD big ten teams, that had bad seasons the year we beat them

Yes, they were decent. Finished at 8-5. It was a good win. The Northwestern team that beat was bad, finished 5-7. The Purdue team was putrid - they had only one victory that entire season.

The Huskies are a MAC team, so I judge them by MAC standards. They aquire MAC recruits, and draw MAC crowds. In their best years, they were a great team by MAC standards. They have never played above the conference, though they have at times played like the best team in the conference.
I would love to see the Huskies win a bowl game, just as I would love to see the Cubs win the World Series. But as far as the Huskies' last four bowl games were concerned, they were playing top notch teams from conferences better than the MAC. They really were not supposed to win those games.
The last time the Wolves won the Calder Cup, they had the best team in the AHL. The Blackhawks would have destroyed the Wolves, that year. Keep things in perspective, and be thankful that you do not pay $80 to see just one game from the cheap seats like the Ohio State fans do.

So then by extension the MAC championship game is the most important game for you as a fan?

RE: Carey should be fired. Period, End of Story....
I find this all very interesting;
RC/BC aside, I remember after the Toledo game everyone was foaming at the mouth and saying the rest of the season was cake. Didn't matter how we did, people were overjoyed that we defeated our nemesis from Toledo. Especially given the QB situation.
Now? Suddenly the NIU program is unwatchable, we shouldn't support the program monetarily (one of the things that the program cannot afford to lose), and we are down in the dumps and the worst program ever. I'm not being hyperbolic -- I am merely giving a summation of the board since the game. I'm not going to sit here and call people stupid, racial slurs, idiots, etc. That's not how I roll and then arguments become emotional rather than insightful.
Don't get me wrong, the game against Boise was absolutely putrid. Personally? I some assistants need to go with BC. Carey gets a buffer year because it's very kneejerk to fire the coach that took a 395238945 string QB to the glassbowl and beat a ranked Toledo team (they were ranked..right?). Yes, we looked bad with Tommy Cajones in the MACC. But I still can't believe the change in attitude in like...a month. Just...odd.
I hope (and know) that Sean Frazier is going to make the changes he thinks necessary in order to fix the product on the field. It's just crazy to see this kind of change in attitude between Toledo, the MACC, and BSU.

I think if anything it's hyperbolic to say that everyone would have been happy no matter how the season turned out after Toledo.

I agree, I think it goes both ways. (despite what my original post may have insinuated)

I don't think anyone deserves to get fired for one bad game or even the three bad games we had down the stretch, as embarrassing as they were. These same coaches have had a lot of success up until this point. HOWEVER it did appear to me like the guys quit in the second half vs. Boise. I was not in San Diego and I am not a coach but that's what it looked like to me on TV and it's very disturbing. If I were Sean Frazier I would be digging in to that issue a little bit.

Yes, and unfortunately this is not the first time it's happened in the post-season.

This team was not prepared to play the MACC as well as the bowl game. The team had no fire. The team had no drive. The team had no passion . This is a direct reflection on the head coach. The end of this season was an embarrasment to NIU and its fan base. To lose to Ohio at home and then lay an egg in the MACC and the bowl game is inexcusable. Good bye, coach Carey and your staff.

Bob Cole and his play calling bother me. Also, Carey is a damn good Oline coach. Could he resume coaching the Oline while still being head coach? Too much to take on?
