Popeyes Bahamas Bowl: MTSU vs Western Michigan
These two lucky G5 hanger-ons got the Golden Ticket to spend Christmas in the Bahamas.
On paper, WM looks like the stronger team. Massey has WM at #52, MTSU at #78 and WM is a 7 point favorite.
But I'm predicting an upset. A close look shows that MT really hasn't had a bad loss. They lost at WKU and LA-Tech, both of whom have won their bowl games. Their other three losses are to P5 - Vandy and Illinois in very close games, and even a respectable loss to Alabama.
WM isn't a bad team, but their losses to Bowling Green and NIU don't look so respectable now that both have gotten crushed in bowl games. Not just beaten but really demolished.
I say MTSU 31, Western Michigan 24

You might have underestimated the score. 11:04 left in the 1st Quarter and it's already 14-7 MTSU

Both teams were pretty much equals going into it. I think WMU has greater offensive weapons, but a worse D. But in the end, who brings their best game. I think WMU did. WMU's O has the potential to be Powerful against teams. We ran for over 150 yards @Ohio State, and put up yardage there (but failed FGs, XP, 2pt Conv, a no-excuse INT in front of our own goal like seen against MTSU to keep it from being a respectable score @OSU). However, WMU can get in funks O when a D plays good ball at the same time (see against @GA-Southern, BGSU), but also produce well in yards and TOP against great Ds (see MSU, @Toledo).
MTSU is also a potential O power when running on all cylinders, so against a lesser D like ours, in the end, it was expected to be an evenly matched game (3pt spread) -- and whoever drank LESS while being out there won. :)

Congratulations to WMU on your first bowl win. Bogan was a horse, great game. But the game itself was closer than the final score, it was tied midway through the fourth quarter. Great job by WMU pulling away at the end.

So does this make the MAC a better conference than CUSA?
