You are correct in that the Director of the Senior Bowl is a Bammer. But even if they want to play games, they're somewhat limited in what they can do.

The Senior Bowl has competition. They can't totally play homer games.

That being said, players from Alabama, Auburn, and players with local Mobile ties sometimes get some extra consideration.

No they select who they are feel are the top QB's..Usually the higher QB's will skip but others hope the Senior Bowl helps their stock rise as NFL network carries every practice leading up to game as well as hundreds of NFL scouts on hand...Its a big deal as far as draft stock goes which is why Doughty deserves the chance to show scouts what he can do against they very best...

Doughty didn't do the Senior Bowl of his own choosing. Just an FYI. He agreed to the East/West game but also wanted time to work with his personal QB trainer in Florida before the Combine.

Maybe Doughty was to old for the senior bowl. I hear he was invited to the senior citizens bowl sponsored by AARP.

I think one of the things that gets lost is that even though Doughty was at WKU 6 years he only played 3 seasons. Redshirt as a freshman and missed next 2 seasons with injuries. Which makes his numbers and accomplishments all the more impressive to be in the top 15 all time in several categories while only playing 3 seasons. And his season under Petrino wasn't very good.

He really turned down the Senior Bowl? I would hope that is not true...Amount of exposure that week is unreal plus you are getting coached by NFL staffs, albeit the Titans staff if you call it that coached last season...

RE: Senior Bowl
MU fans as a whole don't dislike Doughty a bit, they just want him to go the NFL and deal w/ someone else. I posted what I thought of his talent last yr.: that he was clearly the best QB in the conference last season and I was surprised he didn't go play on Sundays. Even during his bowl game, the bozos in the booth said they had a 4th round draft estimate on him by some scouts. These scouts shouldn't be scouts. They're probably the same guys that came to Huntington back in '98 to see if Randy Moss could run or catch a football. BTW, 7 head coaches came to his pro day at Marshall...none selected him, all were fired within 3 yrs(Ditka, Wannestadt were the braintrusts). If Doughty goes past the 2nd round, I'll be very surprised. The kid is an awesome QB and the NFL has a bunch of dog QB's. Barring injury, I think he'll start up there, no doubt.

My understanding is he had time for one. And chose the other over the senior bowl. He has had plenty of time infront of scouts and coaches. He will get more at the WKU pro day as well as the combine. Exposure is not something he is short on. Every NFL exec knows who he is.

Unfortunately it's looking like the Cleveland Browns are putting a lot of homework and study time into Doughty. I hope he doesn't go to that pit!

Yea I am not buying into him choosing East West Shrine game if he had opportunity to play in the Senior Bowl...Senior Bowl is like the Super Bowl as far as trying to make it to the NFL.... East West Shrine Game is a tier below...Either way I hope he has a good showing and gets picked at least in 3rd round although sounds like he will be picked somewhere in the 4th round...Seems to me he is not still not getting much praise by NFL personnel......Really hope he does not land with the Browns or Titans...

Seems like USM has traditionally been pretty well-represented at the SeƱor Bowl. Could be geography.

If not mistaken, the NFL has considerable input on who they want to see during the week of Senior Bowl practices.
