RE: Congrats to the Akron Zips
Terry Bowden took over a program that won 3 FBS games in three years before he got there. Under Bowden:

Year 1
1-11
428 points allowed

Year 2
5-7
343 points allowed

Year 3
5-7
277 points allowed

Year 4
7-5 + bowl win
258 points allowed in reg. season

He's 59 now. I wonder if a bigger school will hire him after next season if Akron keeps improving.

If he keeps winning, why wouldn't he go to a bigger school that offers him a job? He would.

He also almost beat Michigan.

Congratulations to Akron. It has been a good day for the MAC.

I don't think Bowden is going anywhere, I think he's going to try and build Akron into a program like Solich has done at OU.

Yes.

This season should get him a nice contract extension.

There may be a shifting in the tide of the MAC East with Akron taking the place of KSU football as a factor in the divisional race.

Finally that new football stadium is paying off.

Was this one of the schools in OH that was under a little financial distress and had thoughts of moving to FCS? If so, wonder if this bowl win would help change things a bit. Still would need the financial support though and fans in the stands.

The Akron Beacon Journal did some reporting on the idea that Akron should move down to FCS, but this talk was driven by rank-and-file professors, not the university's administration. The idea seems highly unlikely.

As for Bowden: That was a nice finish to the season. This may be his biggest win as a Zip coach. He must be feeling a bit more secure. But the Zips have work to do if they want to compete in the East. They did beat Buffalo and they came close against Ohio, but Bowling Green beat them 59-10.

I knew Bowden would get Akron winning. WV guys are usually great coaches: Bowden, Holtz, Saban, Pruett, Fisher, Holliday, Rodriguez, ect...
Akron might be safe with him being 59 (same as Holliday). WVU fans wouldn't mind seeing another Bowden in Morgantown.
