I guess I should say the argument was the same/UT claimed Ely's redshirt year was really an injury year. The transfer was different of course and Ely would be 32 when he completed his eligibility but still.,.,

He had a redshirt season at Alabama as well. I honestly think he should get another year because the Alabama reshirt season and last season were missed due to factors outside of his control. But I'm just giving the reasoning that the NCAA likely used when determining it. Of course with some of the NCAA's eligibility decisions, they seem to just spin a carnival wheel and base the decision on where it stops.

Yep. If it stops on Ohio State or USC or Notre Dame the decisions look different.

Ely's last game tonight

Unless Hunt foolishly turns pro, all our running backs return. Next season should be another real good year.

Please don't compare someone who is good (woodside) with Dantin. Dantin was a disaster.

Nice job Phillip. What a nice year. You were on it last night like most of the year. You had too many passes dropped this year and a few last night, but again what a nice year.

Good luck going forward. We hope your experience at Toledo was great. We are glad you came. You were a great example for the program. We appreciate that! 04-cheers

If anyone out there knows the family or Phillip, please wish him well.

I remember his mom (Dantin) walking up and down the steps with a "Put Austin In" sign and holding it towards the press box. Phil did put a nice cap on his playing career last night. That pass downfield that C Jones couldn't come down with was a bullet and on point.

Didn't see that but I definitely remember Dantin's mom!

Passing percentage with Dantin was quite a bit higher than the current QB and he made yards with his legs and he was dealing with that QB "rotation." He got injured. Also, after losing the starting job, he could have packed it in but he kept playing. Where is the "disaster ???"

Ask most NIU fans how good Dantin was.

That's because he had a wet noodle for an arm and couldn't throw more than 3 yards down field.

I'd take Logan woodside in a wheelchair over a healthy Dantin.

Ugh, remember that as well.

Great game for Ely. When you consider the pouring rain, he and the receivers did an exceptional job. Congrats on being named the bowl MVP. Great way to finish his career.

Ely had another one on target(a slant route) that would have probably been a TD. Can't remember Rockets playing rain games than this season.

Glad he got to go out on a good note and show why he was at Alabama.

RE: Ely's last game tonight
Gotta quibble with the Dantin disaster comment as well. We had a choice of a 70% completion guy who only threw screen passes (although his senior year I recall some longer stuff) and who could take off on 30-40 yard jaunts, or a 50% guy who completed quite a few to the fan in Section 8, Row 4, Seat 16 and who was an effective scrambler but not really a run threat. We chose both and still won games. A disaster is a 3-9 season with a guy who completes 40% when you have a clear cut better option on the bench. AND his hair alone would keep him from qualifying as a disaster.

RE: Ely's last game tonight
Dantin's 2011 season was one of the best in school history for a QB. Not only did he co-quarterback the highest scoring offense in school history, he had:

8th best completion percentage, all time
5th best passing efficiency rating
2nd best in percentage of attempts that went for TDs

His 15 TD passes is just outside the top 10 all time, despite getting less than half the overall passing attempts for the season.

Calling that a "disaster" is a strange definition of the word, to me.

Reading the story about Ely and it says Woodside will have two years of eligibility left. I thought he was freshman last year?

I think that the offense will be OK next year but take a look at the 2 deep roster on defense and it is very hard to believe that the defense will not be in a serious rebuilding mode next year. At least the defense should get Jaylen Coleman back, but the loses to graduation are enormous.

Loses to graduation were enormous on offense last year. If the new set of coaches can pull the same miracle out of their butts as did last year's....

It's not Candle that's going to prove or disprove the MU "process." It's Hallett.

Ely was extremely humble during his interview accepting the Offensive MVP, giving credit to the O-line, RBs, & WRs.
