Hard to believe the "worst coach in college basketball" could accomplish some of this. But therein lies the problem. The narrative is too strong, and CJP has lost the fans. He's got to go.

Give credit where it is due - he recruited like a madman for his first 4 years and that talent slapped CUSA silly.

The longer he coaches, the further he plummets down the 'most wins to start their careers' list.

What Jamie Dixon did at Pitt in the murderous Big East was really incredible. Too bad for him he flamed out in the tourney every year.

With that record, Josh's next job should be at a top 10 school. How could anyone not be impressed with that level of success?

As I've illustrated before and per statsheet, the league when Josh took over was the weakest it has ever been (from CUSA back on back).

There was a graph on statsheet which also showed in graph form the strength of the league dating back to Finch's days and as one would expect the graph bottomed out those first five years during Josh era (luck of the draw to enter the league at its weakest.... Ever)

Quote:Per statsheet.com

In Cal's 1st five years, the league got stronger sending 2, 3, 4, 6, 4 teams to the NC2A tourney.

In Josh's 1st four years CUSA sent 2, 2, 2, 1, (AAC in year 5).

The teams who made it in the big dance from CUSA in Cal's 1st five years MADE NOISE in the tourney whereas the single CUSA team besides Memphis which made it to the big dance in Josh years did nothing (probably only made the big dance due to the field expanding to except more teams).

Again, There is no comparison here.

It's not Josh's fault the league was pure garbage when he took over (remember it WAS raided a few years before then) however don't be naïve and omit the lack of strength of the league aided his record as a starting coach (btw, didn't Cal go 61-1 or something like that after the raid???). #WeaksauceLeague:

Old Link to the FACTS
Quote:Per statsheet.com, here is CUSA's NCAA tourney winning percentage when Cal coached his first 5 years vs Josh:

Cal:
(.25, .5555, .454545, .6, .6) = average of 49.2% winning

Josh:
(0, 0, 0, .5) = 12.5% winning in the big dance. The lone win for any CUSA team since 2009 was the win against power house St Mary's.

CUSA's average throughout history for wins in the NC2A tourney is 50.5%

The league flatlined to ZERO for the first time in conference history in 2009-10 in terms of winning percentage in the big dance when Josh took over. Win % remained AT ZERO for three straight years marking the weakest stretch for CUSA since its conception (duhhh, of course Josh would rack up good numbers with virtually NO competion).

Again, NO COMPARISON. Memphis during Josh's tenure has been a big fish in a little pond.

This is FACT.

Using your logic, why is the list not dominated by coaches from the Atlantic Sun or the MAAC? One thing to coach in a weak league. Another thing to get players one level up from that league. Quite another to dominate that league at a historical record pace.

Look, he's not a top 10 coach. No way. And the damage is done. He has to go.

But he's not the "hot garbage" that some are claiming. And it's not going to be easy to just fire, hire, and return to glory.

He is hot garbage. It's absolutely asinine to think he's not.

What are his 5 best wins during his career?

Great logic regarding your idol. The key word is "plummet".

As soon as he got in a half way decent conference he PLUMMETED.
