Doubt that's going to play in court when Kessler et al are challenging that the NCAA doesn't do enough for student-athletes.
"But your honor, the NCAA just voted this year to add yet another game to the college football season!"
Your point would be decent if it was the only thing happening. It isn't though, alas your point is limited.
It would be the trump point.
What's the NCAA going to respond with? "Well ... yeah ... but, we allowed schools to provide full cost of attendance scholarships!"
Yes. You put far too much trust in the courts to make such a behemoth judgement against the entirety of our University level public education system.

Extra game for 1 team. Hardly a deal killer. Even if 15 games were played by two teams it's being done already. Fcs level. Just excuses are being made.
FCS only plays 11 regular season games. And they don't play CCG's (the playoff confs).
So like I said, either chop off a regular season game for everyone in FBS (yeah right) or kill CCG's.
FYI. FCS conference are allowed to hold CCG, but they have to wrap up before week of the playoffs...which mostly could mean 10 games most of the times except for the years where the calendar will still all 11 regular season games.
Some of the top FCS schools do play 12 games before playing the playoffs. It is mostly the Big Sky, MVFC, Southland, Southern and CAA schools that have done this. Usually the ones that seems to be interested in going FBS.

nope. by ncaa regs a 12 game season can happen for fcs but they usually dont. it is a calendar thing that is not normal and, if i remember right, it is once every four years or so that you can get 12 games in. the norm for all fcs teams including your list is 11 games. all big sky teams will be playing an 11 game schedule next year.

Not going to happen, as that would be too many games for the two teams that stagger into the championship.
12 + CCG + 3 CFP bracket? Nope.
And you can't take away regular season games from everyone else, just to benefit eight teams.
All you can do is get rid of CCG, I guess.
The push to 8 would need to cut the regular season to 11 games. Which I think would be fine by most schools. it would be equivalent to the amount the FCS final teams play with the exception of a team from the first round which would push it to 16.
If they did have the side benefit is that the bowls would have teams with winning records.
No way are the Big schools going to cut the schedule to 11 games. That one game would cost each of them upwards of $5 million
That would be more than made up by the playoff amount that seems to be increased from the expanded field. Guarantee that the Big Schools will give up the home game for an auto-bid to the playoff if that was the choice.
How can you guarantee that? How much money does Alabama make from one home game with all of their suites and donors seating etc/
And how much more will they get from an extended playoff?
I heard one AD say that if that was his choice he would take the 12th game, because he knew what he is getting

They won't have to. It'll be settled out of court.
The NCAA said "come try to get us!" to O'Bannon, and got kicked in the nuts for it. They know better now. They're not going to risk players becoming employees.

RE: Texas AD on playoffs, Big 12 title game, Houston
I think 6 games will be the next step in 2026.
I don't think 1 extra game matters much. Nobody is going to drop a regular season game. The CCGs are here to stay. They'll add on to the season and 1 extra game for one team will be just fine.
The kicker will be HOW to implement it. To get maximum exposure, they won't want to put it on a campus the week after CCGs. I like that "simple" solution, but it won't fly. They'll need to make round one be on or after Christmas...at the earliest. The CFP will need to be moved to after New Year's then...and the CFP championship game will almost need to be during the bye week before the NFL's Super Bowl. Now THAT will be a crazy change.
