It will be interesting to see how bad the casinos want it. If they do, I'm sure you will start to see some big numbers thrown around that will put pressure on the politicians.

Casinos would have no positive impact on the surrounding areas. In fact would be the opposite no matter the money.

Apparently the Atlanta Hawks are also interested in the Turner Field area. Anyone heard anything about that?

I heard they want a new stadium, which I think is a joke. Phillips Arena is perfectly fine for them. I'm tired of seeing all these sports teams hijack my city. You have 2 good seasons and all of a sudden you think you're owed something.

State's is the best plan from a redevelopment and revitalization of that area perspective. Casinos would be a nightmare, wrapped in crime, buttered with prostitution (which the Atlanta area has a serious problem with), and finally dumped in a hot greasy tub of wasteful spending. The hawks would use a tiny portion of the area and then keep all that parking which is a hideous eyesore on the area and they'd get rid of one of the last surviving Olympic stadiums in America.

State all the way with this one

I really want this to happen for Georgia state. I really can't stand using municipal venues for college sports. Nothing can replace your own field. Georgia dome is not the place for GSU to get its program going. A nice sports facility with an intimate 20k stadium is perfect for GSU to prove they are serious about football at the school. I really wish you and south Alabama the best in getting your own stadia.

The Falcons, Braves and Hawks all want to own their stadium and/or surrounding area instead of leasing it. They want more control and more money. I don't blame the Hawks for wanting their own arena. After seeing the city(s) hand out money to help pay for the other two teams new homes I'd ask for a hand out too... Now as a taxpayer I hope we've seen the last of this.

Who currently owns Philips and who has the management agreement now that Spirit is gone?

It's owned by Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority and operated by the Hawks' new ownership.

Politicians decide what to do with this property. The people in the neighborhood vote on who their politicians are.

Boom

And the politicians of the city of Atlanta might be even more moronic than the ones in Washington (if that's even possible) so what does that say about the people who voted for them?
