They have unique rules for number of foreign players versus Canadian players. Does he have enough potential to get drafted? I assume he will get a look as a free agent.

Thoughts?

RE: Will Canada be drafted by a team CFL?
I was about to point out that Courtney Stephen was drafted, but wasn't just drafted, he was 8th overall (unexpected Google result). So he could easily be a high pick. But I'd also guess CFL draft status also puts a lot of weight on signability. As in, is this player more interested knocking around the farthest fringes of NFL camps in hopes of a practice squad spot.

Yes and he'll have a great career.

Only thing holding him back from NFL type aspirations is top end speed. At that level, he'll be very productive.

With his lack of speed, I think he'd better suited as a TE.

He'd probably be a good fit for that league. However, I don't think being Canadian would make him any more of an option. My buddy that played basketball at Notre Dame ended up playing professional ball in Italy for a long time. He ended up getting dual citizenship to work around that rule. I think it's pretty common for players to do that in order to get around that rule.

And I'd like to add... what a stupid rule.

That's not how the CFL works.

"A player who is a Canadian citizen and was physically resident in Canada for an aggregate period of five years prior to the age of 18 years qualifies as a non-import player."

It doesn't matter if you become a resident after the fact for the CFL.

If I had to guess, Italy is probably more relaxed because they don't have as much talent for baseball as Canada does for football, and they need to have more flexible rules to get as many respectable players as they can.

Anthony Maestranzi had a nice career in the Italian league.

"The only thing holding him back is NFL type speed"...

Yes, that and...our offense.

I agree that he lacks the speed to be successful in the NFL but...geez...golly....with bookends....Canada and Galloday...Hard to imagine Canada does not have bigger/better numbers. He has been almost a non factor.

That is shame on us.

One more game though...

Stronz? Wow.

Tom Doerr, former Bulls announcer said he not only made pretty money over there back in the day, he had a great time doing it. The club set him up with a sweet villa overlooking the Med and a nice Italian sports car. One game a week during the season.

I've always thought the same thing. I'm sure 7 will come on here and say all he has is size.

So if Canada ends up in the CFL or on an NFL practice squad he can take over the Tim Semisch role. "Oh my god we had a professional WR and never used him. Fire Carey!"
