OT - Favorite Christmas movies
Every year, my wife and I rewatch a few old favorites. They always put me in a good mood.
In particular, I just had to share my love of the movie Elf. Will Ferrell is so goofily endearing. So many great little funny moments, all of which still make me laugh out loud (well, grin and chuckle to myself) after so many watches. But the whole thing is so good-hearted and joyful, strikes the perfect tone for me. Zooey Deschanel's best work, too - and really everyone is great (Bob Newhart, James Caan). Maybe a couple bits are over the top, and it bogs down a bit with the conflict at the end, but whatever.
Anyway, other traditions for us are Home Alone and How the Grinch Stole Christmas (the half-hour Boris Karloff TV version).
How about the rest of you?
(And seriously, try Elf if you haven't seen it before.)

My girls were just in Elf Jr., the Musical at Inspiration Stage. I was amazed at how crowded the shows were. Apparently, there are a ton of Elf (the movie) fans who love the movie so much they came to watch the musical.

The 1938 movie A Christmas Carol. Starring Reginald Owen.
It's hard to find during a lot of the usual Holiday drivel on TV. But it's a classic. Never fails to cheer me up this time of year.

RE: OT - Favorite Christmas movies
Definitely agree on Elf. Probably the kids' favorite. They were even showing it at the gym today (in the cardio cinema "cave").
Just got done watching It's A Wonderful Life tonight.
Bit the bullet on letting the kids watch Christmas Vacation last year, with the infrequent coarse language, and they loved it.
We've got so many others that get pulled out - Charlie Brown Christmas, Grinch (original), Santa Clause. List could go on.
For my wife, she'd probably say The Nativity Story. She always brings us back to the reason for the season.

It isn't Christmas until TBS plays A Christmas Story on repeat for the whole day.
And agree with people on Elf - that movie has really been embraced in the past few years as a modern day classic. Just enough goofiness and heartfelt moments for the whole family.

I enjoy "It Happened on Fifth Avenue" with Victor Moore. Really enjoyable post-WWII movie.

After the big Thanksgiving meal, we always watch "Christmas Vacation." We all know the dialogue by heart, but still laugh. Growing up in 1960's St. Louis was very similar to the suburban life set in Clark Griswold's world.
Other favorites are Four Christmases, Bad Santa, Jingle Bells, It's a Wonderful Life and Holiday Inn (Fred Astaire stole the show).

RE: OT - Favorite Christmas movies
We always watch "Christmas Story" as a family. In fact, two years ago, my wife bought a pink bunny suit and leg lamp off eBay, and we all dressed up in costume for our Christmas card, and then last year we all went to an Alamo Drafthouse Quote-Along screening in costume -- as we were the only ones who dressed up, they should have given us free admission or at least a "major award" but was not to be.
I'm not a huge "Christmas Carol" fan, but I love the 1970 Albert Finney musical version ("Scrooge"). We always watch that one this time of year as well.
Die Hard is an inspired choice.

My two as well but ONLY the original Miracle on 34th Street...the other remakes
I watched "Miracle on 34th Street" at the Edwards I-10 on Sunday. I was disappointed at the paltry attendance. It will be shown again tomorrow night. I was a bit let down at the quality of the picture (it was a satellite feed, but the picture was too dark. Maybe they'll make adjustments before the next showing).
